Reconstruction of Economy: A ravaged infrastructure, a poor investment climate, wrong priorities and inequitable distribution of wealth have been the hallmarks of economic governance in the last 40 years. Safina would like to see this urgently through proper allocation of resources, encouraging private enterprise, affirmative action and better management of resources.
Constitutional reforms: SAFINA has vigorously pursued for constitutional reforms since its launch. Individual and collective freedoms and an enabling environment for economic progress, and would like to see these entrenched in a new constitution as soon as practicable.
Elimination of corruption: this has been a key determent to progress. The party sees the root causes of corruption as the culture of tolerance of corruption, poverty, institutional weakness and poor enforcement of the law. The party will tackle corruption by punishing the culprits without exception, by strengthening institutions that fight corruption and synchronizing their efforts, through poverty eradication programs and by entrenching a “hard work pays” culture in the country.
Education: The Party is committed to free primary education of good quality. It also supports affordable secondary and tertiary education through minimization of fees, giving of bursaries and loans to the deserving students and subsidization where possible.
Health: the Party would like to see affordable health care for all, with charges being linked to ability to pay. Availability of health care, drugs and other medical facilities close to people is a priority. Emphasis will be given to preventive programmes, especially for HIV/AIDS, malaria and malnutrition-caused diseases. Maternal health care will also be given attention.
Social security: SAFINA believes in all inclusive social security. People in informal employment have been previously been excluded from social security schemes, yet they constitute the vast majority of Kenya’s workers. The management of social security investments will be vastly improved, while maximizing the benefits that go directly to the contributors.
