National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) is a State Parastatal that was established in 1966 as a department under the Ministry of Health.

The Social Health Authority (SHA) facilitates healthcare services from enlisted providers by pooling contributions, ensuring the equitable distribution of quality healthcare. SHA joined H.E. President William Samoei Ruto, Cabinet Secretary for Health Hon. Aden Duale and Wajir Governor H.E. Ahmed Abdullahi during the commissioning of the Wajir County Teaching and Referral Hospital Accident and Emergency Unit, after the Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir County.

The new Accident and Emergency Unit marks a major step in strengthening emergency and critical care services for Wajir and the wider Northern Kenya region. As part of this momentum, SHA will soon roll out the Ambulance Dispatch Centre, which will improve access to emergency services, strengthen ambulance coordination and support timely referrals in collaboration with county governments.

During the same event, SHA and the Ministry of Health committed to continue working with county governments to grow registration, improve claims management and strengthen facility readiness. Key priorities for Wajir and the region include CHP-led outreach, mobile registration for remote and nomadic communities, assisted registration at facilities and Huduma Centres, and provider training on claims submission and documentation.

SHA was represented by Director Corporate Services Ibrahim Alio, alongside the Wajir SHA office team, whose continued public engagement and registration support remain central to expanding healthcare access in the county.

SHA, Nation Media Group Unite to Drive Public Dialogue on Kenya’s Health Reforms

The Social Health Authority on Friday partnered with Nation Media Group during the Nation Health Summit 2026 to engage stakeholders and the public on ongoing health reforms and the future of universal healthcare in Kenya.

Held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre under the theme Positioning East Africa as a Centre for Healthcare Excellence, the summit brought together policymakers, healthcare leaders, development partners, and innovators to explore pathways toward affordable, accessible, and sustainable healthcare across the region.

As a key partner in the event, the Authority used the summit’s town hall format to highlight progress in implementing its programmes and initiatives. Through panel discussions and interactive question-and-answer sessions, officials engaged directly with participants, providing updates on reforms while addressing public concerns and questions.

The two-day summit, organised by NMG in collaboration with key health sector partners, served as a platform for dialogue on universal health coverage, health system strengthening, and strategies aimed at positioning East Africa as a regional hub for healthcare excellence.
