This morning, the High Commissioner of the Republic of Kenya to Uganda, H.E. Amb. Ababu Namwamba,EGH, received courtesy calls from the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Uganda Country Representative, Ms. Caroline Gathogo, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Uganda Head of Office, Ms. Jeptum Bargoria.
At the Kenya High Commission in Kampala, the High Commissioner continues to advance the core diplomatic mission of deepening and expanding the strong bilateral ties between Kenya and Uganda, while steadfastly promoting Kenya’s strategic national interests.
Uganda remains Kenya Ports Authority’s leading transit cargo market, accounting for a significant share of cargo moving through the Port of Mombasa. With 67% of all cargo handled in Mombasa destined for Uganda, the country stands as Kenya’s foremost bilateral partner across key sectors, including trade, infrastructure connectivity, and cooperation in peace and security. The High Commission continues to take deliberate and coordinated measures to facilitate the smooth and efficient flow of cargo along the Northern Corridor, ensuring it remains the preferred trade route for regional integration and economic growth.
Additionally, the High Commissioner takes pride in reaffirming Kenya’s esteemed position as a key United Nations host country, and continues to strongly support the work of UN agencies, including UNODC, in advancing global peace, justice, and the rule of law.
Through such engagements, the High Commissioner’s leadership reflects a firm commitment to strengthening regional partnerships, enhancing economic diplomacy, and reinforcing Kenya’s role as a dependable hub for international cooperation.

Earlier today in Kampala I presided as Chief Guest a special twin-ceremony for the launch of the 3rd edition of the “Twende Zetu Butiama Pilgrimage Safari” and the unveiling of the African Union Kiswahili Commissioners. Both events bear significant meaning.
The pilgrimage to Butiama, the ancestral home of the late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, honors the enduring legacy of this towering son of Africa, whose indelible mark on East Africa and indeed the whole African continent lives on long after his physical demise. This year the unique annual pilgrimage will extend to Akokoro, the birthplace of the late Dr. Apollo Milton Obote, and Ichaweri, Kiambu County, the cradle of the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta. This is to celebrate the legacy of the three founding fathers of the original East African Community. The pilgrimage is also an occasion to deepen and tighten the bonds of East African integration, while also promoting trans-national mobility, cross-boarder trade and regional tourism.
Unveiling of the African Union Kiswahili Commissioners breathes fresh impetus into the African Academy of Languages (ACALAN), an initiative of the African Union (AU) to promote African languages. Kiswahili, spoken by some 250 million peoples across Africa, is a top candidate to be the língua franca for the continent, and has the potential to become a key symbol for African unity. Already adopted as an official language of the African Union and duly recognized by UNESCO with July 7 as the International Kiswahili Day, we already have a basis to promote Kiswahili as a top global language.
It is quite fitting that we combined these two events, in honour of the spirit of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, a true pan-Africanist and Kiswahili doyen, alongside his generation of African liberation heroes. Mwalimu Nyerere so much believed in integration that he even offered to delay the independence of Tanganyika so that his country would, alongside Kenya and Uganda, emerge together from the shackles of colonialism as one united East Africa nation.
Kiswahili kitukuzwe. Tuwaenzi Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere na mashujaa wenzake wa ukombozi wa bara letu.
AFRICA HOYEEE!

The High Commissioner of the Republic of Kenya to Uganda, H.E. Amb. Ababu Namwamba,EGH, yesterday presided over the graduation ceremony of youth trained in digital literacy through a transformative partnership between Panthera Technology and the Abanyala Culture & Heritage CBO at the Bunyala Cultural Center.
The initiative stands as yet another testament to Amb. Namwamba’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to empowering young people through knowledge, innovation, and opportunity. Through the Ababu Namwamba Foundation - ANF,eight institutions have so far benefited from the establishment of digital hubs, including Rugunga, Makunda, Busagwa, Budalangi and Port Mixed Primary Schools, alongside Bunyala Model School and St. Cecilia Namenya Girls School. The digital equipment project, supported by the Embassy of Slovakia, continues to positively transform learning and expand access to technology within the community.
In today’s rapidly evolving world, digital literacy is no longer a luxury but an essential life skill. The graduation of the 46 youth adds to the growing number of young people who have already benefited from Amb. Namwamba’s digital empowerment initiatives, including the impactful Digital Caravan programme that has delivered mobile digital training since 2023 as part of the broader Knowledge Economy agenda.
Beyond technology and innovation, Amb. Namwamba continues to demonstrate deep dedication to the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage. His sustained support for the Abanyala Culture and Heritage CBO, in collaboration with the Kenya Cultural Centre, has strengthened cultural identity and community pride. Equally commendable is his support for Bulala FM, the community radio station founded to enhance emergency communication while promoting and preserving Abanyala culture and heritage.
Amb. Namwamba’s leadership continues to inspire hope, progress, and inclusive empowerment by blending education, culture, technology, and community development into one transformative vision for the future.
