Kenya continues to make history as the country hosts the prestigious Confederation African Cycling (CAC) Road Cycling Africa Championships in Kwale County.
Today, the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports HE Salim Mvurya accompanied by Kwale Governor HE Fatuma Achani led the national and county government leadership in officially launching the Kenya’s 2nd edition of CAC Road Cycling African Championships in Diani, Kwale County.
The highly competitive race brings together 31 countries and over 316 top athletes to compete for Africa’s top crown in cycling. This year’s event promises to be bigger, better and more thrilling. Last year only 22 countries and 186 athletes attended CAC cycling championship that took place in the counties of Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet.
This CS said the phenomenal growth of this race was a symbol of Kenya’s ascent to the top ranks of nations with capacity to host world-class international events.
This event further demonstrates government’s commitment to invest and grow in diverse sporting disciplines as part of harnessing and tapping talents.
With this event, Kenya continue to deservedly earn her sporting strips in the sporting universe. This is through the hosting of several continental sporting tournaments that confer glory, honor and pride to the country.
Kenya has presented a powerful squad for this tournament. As the race gets underway, we root for Team Kenya to fly the national flag high and urge us all to cheer our boys and girls to victory in this exciting cycling duel.
The launch was attended by top cycling officials in the continent and leaders among them CAC president Dr. Yao Allah-Kouamé, Golazo’s head of Cycling events Christophe Impens, Kwale Senator Boy Juma Boy; Lungalunga MP Hon. Chiforomodo Mangale, Mombasa County Deputy Governor Francis Thoya; National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) led by the president Shadrack Maluki and several other top Kenya Cycling Federation officials.

The ongoing construction of Mukerenju Sports Academy in Kandara Constituency, Muran’ga County underscores our resolve to spread the talent development initiatives to all parts of Kenya.
This is one of the 37 Sports Academies under construction in Phase 1 of this grand project that aims to have a sports academy in every constituency in Kenya.
During a routine inspection to assess the progress of this facility by the State Department for Sports, it was noted that the construction works are ongoing and well-on course to be completed on time.
Already, the grading of the football pitch is done with the laying of the hardcore underway to set a firm foundation for standard pitch.
Once complete, this sports academy will feature a modern football pitch, handball, volleyball and basketball court, a 110-metre 8-lane running track, a classroom and a borehole.
Designed to nurture and grow young sporting talent within the learning institutions in the area and the environs, this facility becomes a critical boost to the development of sports initiatives in the Kandara and the entire Muran’ga County.
The State Department for Sports remains fully committed to delivering on this vision as part of President William Ruto’s overall Agenda to promote sports development across the country.
These sporting infrastructure are the building stones for creating a lasting legacy marked by harnessing of talents among our athletes.

Today PS Sports Elijah Mwangi was honored to host a delegation of top volleyball officials led by the President of Confederation of African Volleyball Bouchra Hajij on talks of forging strategic collaboration in a bid to promote the growth of volleyball in Kenya.
Present were other senior officials including Kenya Volleyball Federation President Charles Nyaberi.
The officials praised the exemplary performance by the Kenyan team in all the international tournaments. They singled out the outstanding of the women volleyball team that has consistently topped continental competitions. They also hailed the men’s strong volleyball performance in all competitions.
As part of growing the volleyball game in the country, Kenya will work closely with Confederation of African Volleyball to explore modalities of hosting regional and international volleyball tournaments. We have the skills, the talents and facilities to stage such a tournament.
