The Pensions Department has intensified preparations for the rollout of the Electronic Pensions Management Information System (e-PMIS) through an in-house refresher training for Trainers of Trainers (TOTs) ahead of the systemโs official Go-Live on 1st June 2026.
The training brought together officers drawn from various sections within the Department who will spearhead cascade training and provide technical support to human resource management officers handling pension claims across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) during the implementation phase of the new digital platform.
The session was officially opened by the Secretary and Director of Pensions, Mr. Michael Kagika, who emphasized the significance of the new system in transforming public service pensions administration and improving service delivery to retirees and beneficiaries.
In his remarks, Mr. Kagika urged the TOTs to uphold the Departmentโs commitment to transparency, accountability and efficiency in the processing of pension claims. He noted that the implementation of the e-PMIS marks a major milestone in the modernization of pensions administration as the Department moves away from paper-based processes to a fully integrated end to end digital system.
โThe new system will significantly reduce processing timelines by eliminating excessive paperwork and introducing a more interactive and efficient platform for retirees and officers in the department and MDAs involved in the pension processing chain,โ said Mr. Kagika.
He further expressed confidence in the readiness of the Department to transition into the digital era, noting that the e-PMIS aligns with the Governmentโs broader commitment to digitalization and digitization of public services under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Mr. Kagika observed that the Pensions Department plays a critical role in social protection through the timely settlement of gratuities and pension benefits and to retired public servants and dependants. He added that the adoption of digital systems will strengthen public trust, improve accountability and enhance accessibility of pension services across the country.
The refresher training focused on equipping the TOTs with technical knowledge and operational updates on the new system in readiness for cascade training to officers charged with the responsibility of preparation of pension claims in MDAs. Participants were taken through key modules of the e-PMIS, including digital claim submission, workflow processes, records management, claims tracking and system support mechanisms.
Mr. Kagika reiterated that the cut-off date for manual and physical submission of pension claims will be 31st May 2026, after which all pension claims and related services will exclusively be processed through the Electronic Pensions Management Information System beginning 1st June 2026.
The transition to the e-PMIS is expected to improve efficiency in pension processing, minimize delays associated with manual handling of records, strengthen data security and provide real-time monitoring of pension claims.
The rollout of the system forms part of the Governmentโs ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing public sector efficiency through technology-driven service delivery and ensuring retirees receive timely and seamless access to pension services.
