WASREB participated in the 4th Africa Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS) Regulators Conference held this week in Cape Town and convened by ESAWAS.

Held under the theme “Regulatory Requirements to Accelerate and Sustain Sector Progress,” the conference brought together over 300 delegates from 39 countries across Africa, Europe, and the USA to deliberate on the future of water and sanitation regulation and sector sustainability.

The conference provided a platform for regulators, policymakers, and sector stakeholders to address critical questions shaping the future of water services regulation, including: how regulators can secure genuine institutional independence, how tariff frameworks can balance affordability with cost recovery, and how utilities can be strengthened to become creditworthy and attract private sector investment. ESAWAS member countries represented included Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi, among others.

During the conference, WASREB received recognition as the “Most Outstanding Member in Water and Sanitation Services Regulation,” acknowledging its contribution to strengthening regulatory oversight, promoting accountability, and advancing improvements in water and sanitation service delivery across the region.
