๐จ WHEN OUTSIDERS TAKE OVER LOCAL POLITICS...
The Ol Kalou by-election has reignited a long-standing debate: should outsiders dictate the political direction of a local constituency? When external political interests dominate local campaigns, community priorities risk being overshadowed by national power struggles. The consequence is often deeper political divisions, strained relationships among leaders, and a distracted focus from development and service delivery.
Every by-election should first reflect the voice and interests of the local electorate. If parties and leaders are perceived to be prioritizing political supremacy over local concerns, the biggest losers are the wananchi. As Kenya moves toward 2027, leaders may need to remember that elections are not only about winning seatsโthey are also about earning and sustaining public trust.
