The State Department for Special Programmes led by PS Ismail Maalim Madey, CBS participated in strategic engagements in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia alongside the Kenya Red Cross Society, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in humanitarian response and resilience building.

The discussions brought together key institutions, including the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA), and the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), and focused on enhancing collaboration in disaster preparedness and response, relief coordination, youth empowerment, education and community resilience.

The engagements explored practical partnerships to strengthen early warning systems, improve response mechanisms and expand opportunities for youth capacity development.

These efforts align with the Department’s mandate in coordinating national drought and disaster response, while also supporting the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda through inclusive growth, social protection and sustainable livelihoods.

The delegation also paid a courtesy call on H.E. Joseph Masila, who briefed them on ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral relations and support Kenyans in the Kingdom.

CS Ruku reaffirms government commitment to support vulnerable communities

The Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, Geoffrey Kiringa RUKU, has emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening food security and accelerating development through partnerships and inclusive service delivery.

Speaking during a visit to Mbooni Constituency in Makueni County and Katangi in Machakos County, the CS said sustainable progress in regions such as Ukambani depends on collaboration between leaders, institutions and communities rather than divisive politics.

Ruku noted that the government is prioritizing investments in infrastructure and social programmes to improve livelihoods, adding that meaningful development is best achieved when stakeholders work together to address the needs of citizens.

He cautioned against approaches that focus on political contestation at the expense of service delivery, saying such efforts risk slowing down progress in key sectors such as food security, water access and rural development.

The CS reaffirmed that the administration remains committed to equitable development across the country, regardless of political affiliation, and assured residents that government programmes are designed to be citizen-centered, efficient and responsive to local needs.

“This government is focused on delivering services to all Kenyans without discrimination. Development is most effective when leaders and communities embrace cooperation and shared responsibility,” he said.

During the visit, Ruku oversaw the distribution of relief supplies, underscoring ongoing interventions to support vulnerable households. He reiterated that government-led assistance programmes are a critical component of social protection, noting that even developed nations maintain similar systems to safeguard their populations.

He called on leaders and communities to support initiatives aimed at enhancing food security and resilience, stressing that long-term solutions lie in coordinated efforts, strong partnerships and sustained investment in infrastructure and social services.
