Over the past month, the Department of Co-operative Development, Marketing, and Value Addition has conducted extensive ground familiarization visits to various Co-operative Societies in the county with the objective of gaining better understanding of the specific operational, managerial, and financial challenges facing them
During the cross-county visits, issues related to production, marketing, financing, and management were discussed at length. The department officials sought to identify various challenges that are bedeviling a number of Co-operative Societies in the county, while also discussing mitigating measures to address the situation and revive the stalled societies.
With the Chief Officer CPA Bernard Cheruiyot leading from the front, team covered all corners of the county in a bid to appreciate the specific challenges while developing tailored solutions and mitigating measures.
Among the notable drawbacks in this sector includes market competitions, weak management policies, lack of member's commitment, limited technical expertise and most importantly financial issues.
From this undertaking, the Department of Co-operative Development, Marketing, and Value Addition has demonstrated its total commitment to supporting Co-operative Societies in the county and is on the process of developing a roadmap for implementations inline with the Governor's Legacy Agenda. The insights gained from these visits will be used to develop targeted interventions that will help these societies overcome their challenges and thrive in the long term for the betterment of the Great People of Bomet.
