Police in Nairobi destroyed 2,000 litres of kangara and shut down illegal brewing operations in Soweto during a crackdown on illicit alcohol and drug activities.

Two people were killed on Monday, April 6, in Gem-Ramula, Siaya County, after protesters attempted to storm a local police post. The demonstrators were protesting what they termed an illegal eviction from a gold-mining site in favour of a mining company.
Area police boss Charles Wafula confirmed that the group, which had not notified authorities of the planned demonstration, turned violent—attacking officers and damaging police vehicles and infrastructure at Ramula Police Post. A tractor parked nearby was also set ablaze.
Police deployed live ammunition to contain the situation, fatally shooting two youths. Siaya County Commissioner Norbert Komora blamed unnamed individuals for inciting the violence, warning that such conduct would not be tolerated.
