On May 08th, 2026, Polytechnic Institute of Kampong Chhnang Province (PIKC) celebrated the successful completion of KOICA Volunteer’s On-site Project, attended by Mr. Lee Heungsu, Deputy Country Director of KOICA Cambodia Office, and Mr. Ly Chanrith, Director of Polytechnic Institute of Kampong Chhnang Province, education leaders, respected teachers and all students.

This project was initiated by Mr. Jeon Dukjoon, a KOICA Volunteer whose dedication and efforts were instrumental in its successful implementation. Supported by KOICA, the initiative provided essential equipment, tools, and training materials specialized in the automobile field.

The project aims to enhance hands-on learning opportunities for students and strengthen the capacity of instructors by supporting the development of teaching and learning materials. This will enable teachers to deliver more practical and industry-relevant education. KOICA Cambodia Office hopes that through this project, it will help bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry demands, ultimately empowering Cambodian youth with the technical skills needed for a prosperous career.

Korea & Cambodia: Shaping the Future of Skilled Talent!

KOICA and the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MLVT) have officially launched a landmark USD 9.5 million partnership to transform technical education in Cambodia. This partnership was kicked off through a signing ceremony for the Record of Discussion on April 20, 2026, for the “Project for Skilled Workforce Development to Meet Industry Demands”.

The project will be implemented from 2026 to 2030. The project plays a key role in bridging the gap between the classroom and the fast-paced demands of the modern global market through two objectives. First, it focuses on modernizing essential training hubs—specifically NPIC, ITI, and PPI—by renovating workshops and upgrading training materials and equipment to ensure students learn on the same state-of-the-art equipment used in Korea’s top industrial zones. Second, the project aims to turn "Brain Drain" into "Brain Gain" by linking students to both local and overseas job opportunities, while linking returning migrant workers through the government-led Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. By certifying their expert skills, the initiative empowers returnees to transition into high-level domestic roles or launch their own successful SME businesses right here at home.
