A previous UBI pilot in the nation's largest province boosted local business revenues by 45%.
South Korea launched basic income in rural counties across the nation to boost local businesses and the economy, paying the equivalent of 5% of median wages
'Kim Pan-jong, who runs a tomato juice business, said he expanded into local retail after previously selling only online. "We expect more customers from within the region"'
'For residents like Kim Ki-jun, who runs a barbecue restaurant and supports a family of five, the payments represent both financial relief and a sign of renewed possibility. "If more people move here, it could bring new customers," he said. "That would make a real difference."'

"While those without a single home of their own overflow, you sweep up houses and land, calling it 'investment.' That seamless, relentless greed is the very root of poverty. Do not seek to possess all the land and houses for yourselves alone. Remember the command of the 'Jubilee': 'The land is mine; let everyone find rest in their own land and their own home.' To follow this is the path to correcting a justice that has been fundamentally violated."
"Rent is the price of privilege. It is a value created by the community, and should, in justice, be taken for the benefit of the community."
"지대(地代)는 특권의 대가이다. 그것은 공동체에 의해 창출된 가치이며, 정의의 관점에서 공동체의 이익을 위해 환수되어야 한다."

🔥 A world where house prices rise faster than hard-earned wages is simply not normal.
What we call hitting the "real estate jackpot" is, in reality, 'unearned income' built on someone else's debt and tears. Superficial measures like tweaking mortgage rules or marginally increasing housing supply will never defeat this monster of speculation.
💡 The answer is incredibly simple.
Why do concert ticket scalpers still exist? Because it remains profitable even after paying the fine. Real estate speculation works exactly the same way.
We just need to tax the exact amount of the 'profit gained from just holding onto a property'. A robust Holding Tax (Land Value Tax) is the ultimate solution. If we reduce speculative profits to absolute zero, the incentive to hoard empty houses while waiting for prices to rise completely vanishes.
Ultimately, the market will only be left with people who need a "home to actually live in," leading to stabilized housing prices. What’s more, if the tax revenue collected is returned to the people as a Basic Income? 9 out of 10 citizens would receive far more in benefits than they pay in taxes. The fearmongering about a 'tax bomb' is a complete myth.
A world where a house is no longer a speculative chip in a wealth-building game, but a true 'home.'

This statement by President Lee Jae-myung serves as a strong warning about the destructive consequences of failing to control the runaway real estate market. The phrase 'lost 30 years' draws a stark parallel to Japan's prolonged economic stagnation, implying that unbridled real estate speculation could inflict severe and long-lasting damage on the national economy and social stability. It underscores the urgent necessity for robust land justice and policy interventions to prevent irreversible economic polarization and safeguard the nation's future well-being.
