Dr. Kim Young Jin, the Director of KOPIA Ghana Center and Mr. Noah Kwame Lanyoh, the Administrative Officer of KOPIA Ghana, attended and participated in an event organised by WASCAL. On World Environment Day, WASCAL launched 'CLIMATE CHANGE ACTION NOW', a climate advocacy initiative to empower Ghanaian youth, women, and grassroots communities with climate resilience and clean energy solutions. Distinguished guests from the diplomatic corps, corporate bodies, government, civil society organisations, students, and media joined WASCAL in pledging to reduce Ghana's by adopting sustainable habits like planting trees, reducing plastic use, carpooling, walking, or cycling, and using clean energy solutions.
Under the theme, ‘ Powering Ghana Youth towards Climate Resilience, the initiative aims to reach 10,000 students, women, and grassroots communities, equipping them to become climate champions and achieve 13 and 7.
WASCAL Executive Director, Prof. Emmanuel Ramde, called on all to partner in this initiative.
Prof. Benjamin Kofi Nyarko from the University of Cape Coast called for an urgent need to empower the youth in fighting climate change. Prof. Wilson Agyare of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, charged participants to fight for the sake of Ghana’s livelihood.
Solidarity messages were received from the Embassy of the Holy See, the German Embassy in Accra, MTN Ghana, KOPIA Ghana Center, and the CSIR. Other partners included the EPA, Implementers, the Association of Ghana Industries, Women in Sustainability, UKCEH, IWMI, CABI, AGRA, and IITA.
