The primary objective of the BAF (Business Assistance Facility) in Laos is to support individual Lao enterprises to build their skills, improve their products and services, so as to enhance their level of global competitiveness.

The intention is not only that firms in Laos be able to export more, but also that those selling in the domestic market be able to compete more effectively against imports, particularly with the loss of protection within ASEAN. The key activities of BAF include:

1. Free of charge: direct consulting services, advising individual firms on innovation, competitiveness, new technologies, enhancing their core competitive advantages and developing business growth plans

2. Matching grants (50%): to assist individual Lao partner enterprises financially in purchasing specialized business development services in support of growth plans.
