SLNRWP’S HISTORY
The St Lucia Network of Rural Women Producers (SLNRWP)
obtained its genesis in the year 2011 when four geographical clusters of rural women producers/processors (networks) from the communities of Babonneau in the North, Micoud in the South East, Anse Kawet in the South West, and Canaries in the West of St Lucia, came together as a non-profit organisation registered with the Ministry of Social Transformation in 2011 and has been just received Incorporation in May 2014. With support from IICA the Network has concerned itself with the following:
• Promoting relevant training so as to upgrade and develop the human resource capacity of rural female producers
• Facilitation of access to specialized credit
• Undertaking advocacy to promote and sensitize the wider society
In recent times the membership of SLNRWP has grown and will soon include the other communities of Saint Lucia, has grown to approximately 100 (one hundred) active members with a very vibrant executive committee. There have been a few very successful initiatives undertaken by the leadership, including some fund-raising activities, public awareness activities and participation in some local, regional and international workshops.
