Samadhi Buddha Statue සමාධි පිලිමය 05/04/2013

This limestone image of lord Buddha is dating from the 3rd Century. Seated under a Bo tree, depicts the Lord Buddha in the serene state of Samadhi, or deep meditation.

It's not secret why the Great Indian statesman Jawaharlal Nehru found solace and strength in a photograph of this statue when he was imprisoned by the British in 1940s. The kindness of Lord Buddha flows through the half closed eyes, Watch as as long as you like. This is the finest classical master peices of Lord Buddha in meditation posture in the whole World

The Jetavanaramaya is a stupa constructed by King Mahsen in the 3rd century AD. The stupa rises to a height of 400 feet and happened to be the 3rd largest structure in the ancient world, after the two Great Pyramids of Giza. With over 93,300,000 baked bricks used in its construction, the stupa was also the largest brick structure ever built. The stupa is associated with the Sagalika sect and stands in a compound that spreads over 8 acres. The Buddhist relics in the stupa include the part of the robe worn by Lord Buddha. 3 statues adorn the budu ge' or the worship house for Lord Buddha. The worship house also has statues of kings including one of king Mahasen.

Wessagiriya(වෙස්සගිරිය) 05/04/2013

To the south of Isurumuniya along the Kurunegala Road, you will see three large outcrops of rocks on the left. These are the remains of the Vessagiri monasteries. The complex was founded during the region of the King Tissa in the 3rd century B. C. As the Mahavamsa tells us that King Tissa built the Vessagiri Vihara ‘in a place where 500 Vessas (the third castle) dwelt’. The monetary must have been extensive and included the ancient ‘Issaramana’, which means ‘a place fitting for ascetics.’
