Family Wellbeing Centre proudly participated in the National Stakeholder Consultation and Workshop organized by UNOPS Sri Lanka and the Vriddhi Programme in Colombo from 15–17 June 2026.

The consultation provided a valuable platform for reflection, knowledge sharing, and collaborative dialogue on strengthening communities through locally led solutions.

Participants engaged in discussions on key thematic areas including social cohesion, peacebuilding, community protection, gender equality, human rights, access to justice, inclusive governance, civil society resilience, and climate and disaster resilience. Critical issues such as land rights, displacement, post-conflict recovery, religious and cultural tensions, gender-based violence, women’s rights, psychosocial wellbeing, and community-based protection mechanisms were also explored.

The workshop enabled stakeholders to exchange experiences, strengthen partnerships, and identify practical approaches to addressing community challenges. It was an enriching opportunity to contribute to meaningful conversations that support sustainable development, social inclusion, and positive impact for communities across Sri Lanka.

Between 2018 and 2025, tax rates on ci******es fell. Tax rates on most other goods went up. The gap has a price tag.

The tax share on a pack of ci******es dropped from 74% to 66.8%. The WHO recommends that tax make up at least 75% of the retail price of a cigarette - Sri Lanka now falls below that. Meanwhile, the tax share on most VAT-applicable goods (gas, biscuits, soap) rose by 7.8 percentage points.

At current rates, Sri Lanka is missing out on around Rs. 17.3 billion a year. That is 1.2 times the Disaster Management budget, 1.3 times the Nutrition budget, and 2.4 times the cost of private-sector maternity leave benefits.

On 31 May 2026, in commemoration of World No To***co Day, Family Wellbeing Centre successfully conducted educational campaign to raise awareness about the harmful effects of to***co and ni****ne use.

Programme brought together community members, youth, parents, teachers, and local stakeholders to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage to***co-free environments. Through interactive awareness sessions, group discussions, storytelling, and participatory learning activities, participants gained a deeper understanding of the health, social, and economic consequences of to***co use.

The Social and Behaviour Change approach focused on addressing misconceptions, strengthening refusal skills, and motivating positive behavioural changes among individuals and communities. Participants were encouraged to become advocates for to***co prevention and to support peers and family members in making healthier choices.

Our activities emphasized evidence-based prevention strategies, community engagement, and collective responsibility in protecting future generations from to***co addiction. By fostering informed decision-making and promoting supportive social norms, our programme contributed to strengthening public awareness and community action against to***co use.

Family Wellbeing Centre remains committed to advancing health promotion initiatives and empowering communities to create to***co-free Sri Lanka for all.
