The Aluvihara of Matale is a reminder of our proud history that decisively changed the existence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.

In the 1st century BC (during the reign of King Walagamba), in the face of severe famine and foreign invasions, the Tripitaka, which has been passed down through oral tradition until now, was first written down in palm leaf books at this sacred site! ✨📖
