For 2023, we are highlighting 30 community members across Asia and the Pacific to share their views on Pride and what it really means to them.

📣 Today we hear Ram Dulip Randombage, from Mr Gay World Sri Lanka 2022 & YPEER Asia Pacific Center -Ypeer AP, Sri Lanka, who said, "When people ask me what is there to celebrate being gay? I'd say, I truly am blessed and I’m God’s that special child who was sent into this universe to spread LOVE. I celebrate my true self, everyday, with kindness, bravery, and compassion.”

Symbol - Peacock

About the costume -

The peacock is a national symbol of Sri Lanka as well as a symbol of our people. Before Prince Vijaya came to Sri Lanka , our flag was a peacock. The peacock flag was also the flag of the liberation struggle against the English in 1818. The next important point is the peacock family. Why was a genetic genus named Peacock in our country? It is because Peacocks are an avid group about art, literature and passion. This is clear from the book " Mayura Sandeshaya" . The human race, known as the peacock, is predominantly polycystic, with homozygous. The most beautiful male animal in the animal kingdom is Peacock .

Apart from the rainbow, the peacock gives dreams of color. Also, the peacock keeps the female away. And peacock is the only animal who contribute for the re production of their generation without having s*x with their femal partner. Also the peacock is only living with male group. Peacock was always the emotion of the single man. This is written in the " Elu Sadas " mark, the oldest literary book in Sri Lanka.

Peacocks can often be seen singly in paintings in Sri Lankan sculptures. The dances we encounter at Mayura Vannam as well as the rhythmic rhythms are full of melodious emotions. This can be seen especially in peacock dances.
