දුරුතු පොහොය වර්ෂයේ මුල්ම මාසය මෙන්ම ලංකාවාසී අපට ඉතාමත් වැදගත්ම පොහොයක් වන්නේ බුදුන් වහන්සේ ලංකාවට පළමු වරට වැඩියේ දුරුතු පොහොය දිනයේ වන නිසාය.

මීට ඇතුලු බෞද්ධ ඉතිහාසයේ සිදු වූ වැදගත් සිදුවීම් රාශියක්ම සිදු වී ඇත්තේ මෙවැනි පොහොය දිනකදීය. එම නිසා පොහොය දිනය බෞද්ධයන්ට බෙහෙවින් වැදගත් වේ. අපට පමණක් නොව ලොව සිටින සියලුම බෞද්ධයන්ට පොහොය දිනය අතිශයින්ම වැදගත්ය.
