The annual “Mihindu Seth Medura” project organized by the Saukyadana Special Task Force Unit of the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo, was successfully held on the 23rd of March 2014 at Mihindu Seth Medura, Attidiya, Dehiwala. This project is annually organized with the intention of paying the mere tribute to the war heroes of this nation, for their sacrifice towards our and our motherland’s freedom from the brutal 3 decade war. Nearly 55 disabled soldiers reside in these premises and year by year a record breaking number is joining hands with the Saukyadana Special Task Force Unit in order to make this event a greater success. This time as well, nearly 100 students of the Faculty along with the senior and junior academic staff of the Department of Chemistry treated the inmates with an entertainment session comprising of chatting, playing games, singing along and even dancing with them, and also by providing a small snack and souvenirs.
By the end of the session the inmates, the students and the staff participated as well as the officers of the army did not forget to mention how meaningful and joyful the event was for all of them. While many commending and appreciating this effort and informing their fullest support for the event’s continuation, the organizing committee did not forget to add their warmest gratitude to all those whom have helped them in anyway, with their effort in making this valuable project a success.
