The passing of Suriya Wickremasinghe marks the loss of one of Sri Lanka’s most steadfast advocates for human rights & justice.
For decades, she stood courageously for civil rights, including during some of the country’s most difficult times.

For years, India has supported Sri Lanka to provide housing, including for upcountry communities.
During his recent visit, the Vice President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan met families benefiting from these efforts, and heard directly how it has improved their lives.
Between 2012 and 2021, UN-HABITAT Sri Lanka supported with the construction of nearly 20,000 houses, helping families improve living conditions and strengthen livelihoods.
Grateful to India for their continued partnership and investment in housing, especially as communities face growing climate and economic pressures.

Earth is our one and only home. Wherever we live, protecting the planet is a shared responsibility.
Mother Earth has given us everything, yet we have repaid her with reckless destruction, said UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Wednesday’s International Mother Earth Day.
“We must break our dependence on fossil fuels, protect and restore nature at scale, and deliver climate justice for those who did least to cause this crisis yet suffer the most,” he urged, calling on governments and businesses to step up ambition on climate action.
From reducing food waste to saving energy and buying local, we can all take action and make every day Earth Day.
