On February 24, the Brooksville police department and the Police & Kids Foundation participated in a charity community event helping a family in need in Brooksville.
For 4 months officers of the department have been working with the family of 13, including 4 very young children making their home and property safer for the children. This included a new roof by A Ready Roofing.
Today Brooksville police officers and firefighter along with citizens, business owners and hernando high students completed the next huge step in this effort by cleaning up the property. This effort filled up two large dumpsters of trash and three huge roll off dumpsters with old tires.
Next weekend some much needed siding is going on the house and in the near future the house will be painted.
The Brooksville police department is very proud of our cities generosity and would like to thank all of the volunteers and businesses who donated their time, money and love to help make today's event a great success.

Officer Duke Maeder receives his retirement plaque from Police Chief George Turner.
Officer Maeder joined the Brooksville Police Department in 1992 after retiring from the United States Air Force. While in the service, he worked as a Security Officer, touring several south-pacific locations such as the Philippines and Vietnam during his twenty-year career.
While employed as a Brooksville Police Officer he quickly gained rank, reaching Sergeant, in year 2000. Duke, as he is known to family and friends, worked as a road-patrol supervisor from 2000-2013, when he accepted assignment as the director of lobby services, overseeing fleet maintenance, vehicle impounds, and assisting with investigations of walk-in complaints.
Duke had a long and exemplar career, both here and with the U.S. Air Force. He will be sorely missed and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
