Concluding an intense mission in Mexico with an excellent meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum and her cabinet, as we continue to strengthen the partnership between the EU and Mexico.

At the European Investment Bank, we will support Plan México by financing projects that foster economic growth and social progress, creating new opportunities for businesses and citizens alike.

On my second day in Mexico, I had the pleasure of:

🔵 participating in the forum, which brings together the parliaments of the EU and Latin America in Mexico, and discussing the important role of the European Investment Bank (EIB) in supporting the transatlantic relationship and democratic values;

🔵 meeting with Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, Secretary of Economy of the Mexican Government. The recent summit opens a new chapter in the EU-Mexico alliance, which the EIB will support through financing and technical assistance to boost our shared prosperity.

Today was also marked by two important signings:

☑️ one alongside the Secretary of Energy, Luz Elena González Escobar, on a cooperation framework to identify priority projects for financing and technical support that will accelerate the energy transition, strengthen autonomy, and generate real benefits for citizens;

☑️ another with the Secretary of Finance, Edgar Amador, for a loan to BANCOMEXT to finance climate and innovation projects for companies and to support women entrepreneurs.

On my first day in Mexico, I had very productive meetings with:

🔵 CAF - banco de desarrollo de América Latina y el Caribe Executive President Sergio Díaz Granados Guida. Together, we finance projects that deliver shared prosperity in Latin America and the Caribbean.

🔵 Roberto Velasco Álvarez, Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Mexican Government. Together, we are advancing the strategic alliance between the European Union and Mexico, based on our shared values.

I also had the pleasure of participating in the CEAPI, Consejo Empresarial Alianza por Iberoamérica Congress.

Europe is a strategic partner for Latin America and the Caribbean. We are natural allies and we work together to boost investment, cooperation, and progress on both sides of the Atlantic.

Good exchange with 🇪🇺 directors from the World Bank Group.

The multilateral network plays a key role in supporting financial stability and making projects possible around the world: from water to health, from education to critical minerals.

Working as a system, we deliver more impact at scale.

The European Investment Bank and European Investment Fund Boards of Directors approved €6 billion for investments in:

🔵 renewables and energy efficiency
🔵 security and defence

supporting Europe’s strategic autonomy, creating new opportunities and shared prosperity.
