🌍 6ᵉ Conférence des Ministres africains de l'Agriculture — 10 ans de l'Initiative AAA 📍 Meknès, 22 avril 2026 | SIAM

Dix ans après son lancement à la COP22 de Marrakech sous l'impulsion de Sa Majesté le Roi Mohammed VI, l'Initiative pour l'Adaptation de l'Agriculture Africaine (AAA) a réuni hier à Meknès les Ministres africains de l'Agriculture pour une étape décisive : célébrer une décennie d'action continentale et tracer la vision pour les dix prochaines années.

Les Ministres ont adopté la 6ᵉ Déclaration ministérielle, validant la note de concept du document stratégique « 10 ans de l'Initiative AAA : Bilan et Vision 2036 », qui sera élaboré en partenariat avec la FAO et d’autres partenaires pour:

🔹 Dresser le bilan d'une décennie d'adaptation agricole en Afrique 🔹 Réaffirmer l'adaptation comme priorité continentale, en cohérence avec le PDDAA 2026–2035 et l'Agenda 2063 de l'UA 🔹 Préparer une position africaine unifiée en amont de la COP31 🔹 Rappeler l'urgence d’augmenter le financement de l'adaptation de l’agriculture en Afrique

Prochaine étape : présentation du document stratégique finalisé lors de l'événement de haut niveau du 10ᵉ anniversaire au siège de la FAO à Rome, le 16 septembre 2026, en marge de la réunion annuelle du Partenariat FAST.

🌍 10 ans de l’Initiative AAA : un bilan structurant pour l’avenir de l’agriculture africaine

Le 22 avril 2026 à Meknès, en marge du Salon International de l’Agriculture au Maroc, se tiendra la 6ème Conférence des Ministres Africains de l’Agriculture de l’Initiative AAA, coïncidant avec le 10ème anniversaire de l’Initiative, lancée à la COP22 de Marrakech.

Principale plateforme politique de l'Initiative AAA, cette conférence réunira les ministres africains de l'Agriculture pour célébrer dix ans d'action, présenter la note conceptuelle du document stratégique « 10 ans de l'Initiative AAA : bilan et vision 2036 » et définir les priorités pour la décennie à venir en matière de résilience climatique et de développement agricole durable sur le continent.

Ainsi, la Conférence de Meknès s’inscrit pleinement dans une dynamique de consolidation, de structuration et de projection, en préparant une position africaine unifiée au service d’une adaptation agricole ambitieuse et durable pour l’Afrique.

📅 |Trois escales méditerranéennes pour les Echanges inter-rives sur l’adaptation

Dans le cadre du projet AACC-Med, porté par la Fondation FARM, l’Initiative pour l’Adaptation de l’Agriculture Africaine (AAA) participera aux Échanges inter-rives, un cycle de rencontres réunissant agriculteurs, chercheurs, experts et décideurs pour partager des solutions concrètes face au changement climatique et formuler ensemble des recommandations pour renforcer l’adaptation des agricultures méditerranéennes.

🌍 La Fondation Initiative AAA tient son Conseil d’Administration 🌱
Aujourd’hui à Rabat, s’est tenu le Conseil d’Administration et les Assemblées Générales de la Fondation Initiative AAA, sous la présidence de M. Ahmed Bouari, Ministre de l’Agriculture, de la Pêche Maritime, du Développement Rural et des Eaux et Forêts du Royaume du Maroc, et Président de la Fondation.
Dans son intervention, le Président a salué les avancées majeures de l’Initiative AAA, qui s’affirme comme une plateforme stratégique de coopération africaine pour l’adaptation climatique, et un levier d’innovation et de solidarité au service d’une agriculture africaine durable, résiliente et inclusive.


🌱 The AAA Initiative Foundation holds its Board Meeting
Today in Rabat, the Board of Directors and General Assemblies of the AAA Initiative Foundation took place, chaired by Mr. Ahmed Bouari, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests of the Kingdom of Morocco, and President of the Foundation.
In his address, the President highlighted the major progress of the AAA Initiative, which is increasingly establishing itself as a strategic African cooperation platform for climate adaptation, and as a driver of innovation and solidarity in support of sustainable, resilient, and inclusive African agriculture.

🌿5th Annual Ministerial Conference of the AAA Initiative
Agroforestry at the Heart of Climate Resilience in Africa

Held on the sidelines of the Meknès International Agriculture Fair Salon International de l'Agriculture au Maroc "SIAM"​, the 5th Annual Ministerial Conference of the AAA Initiative brought together Ministers of Agriculture from 18 African countries, alongside representatives from international organizations and experts.

This high-level gathering was held on the topic of: "Agroforestry and Climate Resilience: An African Vision for Food Security and Sustainable Development."

💬 A Strategic Dialogue for the Future of African Agriculture
Chaired by Mr. Ahmed El Bouari, Moroccan Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests and President of the AAA Initiative Foundation, the conference allowed African ministers to share insights on the challenges and opportunities facing African agriculture in the context of climate change.

🎯 Key Takeaways from Minister Ahmed El Bouari’s Address:

- Today’s meeting reflects the collective determination of the African continent to rise to the challenge of climate adaptation.

- This is also a crucial opportunity to rethink agricultural models while taking into consideration long-term sustainability as well as solidarity.

- The conference offers a unique platform for Africa to voice its priorities clearly and contribute meaningfully to the co-construction of fair and inclusive global solutions.

- The AAA Initiative is an ambitious pan-African response aimed at strengthening climate resilience. It must now become a driving force for continental mobilization.

- Agroforestry is more than just a farming method—it is a forward-looking vision rooted in local knowledge and ecosystems. It creates jobs, generates income, and strengthens community livelihoods.

- Achieving food sovereignty will depend on scaling up climate-resilient crops. This requires inclusive policies that empower youth and women, and the establishment of supportive financing mechanisms.

📌 Toward an African Roadmap for COP30
The ministers collectively endorsed a series of strategic directions, paving the way for a shared African voice at COP30:

✅ Develop a harmonized regulatory framework to unlock the carbon sequestration potential of agroforestry
✅ Integrate agroforestry more effectively into national adaptation strategies
✅ 💰 Mobilize international funding to accelerate the implementation of agroforestry projects
✅ Build capacities among farmers and foster a new generation of African agricultural leaders through targeted training initiatives

🌿 Scaling Agroforestry for Climate Resilience and Food Security in Africa🌍

On the sidelines of the International Agricultural Fair in Meknes, Morocco, the AAA Initiative Scientific Committee hosted a high-level event on April 22nd 2025, on an important topic: “Agroforestry for food security and climate resilience in Africa: Bridging science and policy.”

As Africa confronts intensifying climate shocks—droughts, heatwaves, erratic rainfall—agroforestry is emerging as a strategic pillar for climate adaptation and food system transformation.

At the 2025 meeting of the AAA Scientific Committee, leading experts and institutions gathered to assess the scientific evidence, share field experiences, and shape a roadmap for scaling agroforestry across the continent. The session helped align science and policy ahead of the AAA Ministerial Conference and COP30 in Brazil.

🔍 Key Highlights from the Panel:

✔️ Agroforestry is both adaptation and mitigation: It improves soil health, conserves water, supports biodiversity, and increases smallholder resilience.
✔️ Africa is warming faster than the global average—yet contributes the least to emissions. The time to scale solutions is now.
✔️ The yield gap is growing. Without urgent action, climate change will continue to undermine productivity and deepen rural poverty.
✔️ Soil health is foundational. Restoring degraded land is a prerequisite for lasting gains in productivity and resilience.
✔️ Scaling requires enabling environments—policies, finance, research, local innovation, and inclusive governance.
✔️ Robust metrics matter. Standardized adaptation metrics are essential to guide investment and track impact.
✔️ Agroforestry is already rooted in African traditions—the challenge is now to modernize and scale it, sustainably and equitably.

📣 The session produced strong, science-based policy recommendations calling for:
• Integration of agroforestry into NDCs and national adaptation plans
• Investment in long-term finance mechanisms, including carbon and biodiversity markets
• Empowerment of youth, women, and local communities
• South–South cooperation and regional knowledge exchange
• The development of a pan-African adaptation metrics system

💬 This event was more than a discussion—it was a call to action.
The path from science to policy is clear. What is needed now is political will, bold investment, and collective leadership. AAA Initiative is proud to be part of this paradigm’s shift.

🎯 The recommendations of this conference will be presented at the AAA ministerial conference taking place on April 23rd at the SIAM.

L’atelier, organisé en partenariat entre la Fondation Initiative AAA, la Banque mondiale, et la FAO, a permis aux participants de :
1. Approfondir leurs connaissances sur les principes et les pratiques agricoles climatointelligents dans le cadre de la mise en œuvre des contributions déterminées au niveau national (CDN), en mettant l'accent sur les objectifs liés au secteur agricole
2. Partager les expériences réussies à travers le continent et identifier des synergies possibles
3. Renforcer leurs compétences en planification et gestion des projets agricoles de manière à intégrer les aspects climat
4. Se former aux mécanismes de financement internationaux pour le climat : Fonds vert pour le climat, partenariats public-privé, etc.

Les participants à l’atelier se sont vus décerner des attestations par Madame Ghita El Ghorfi, Directrice Générale de la Fondation Initiative AAA.

The workshop, organized in partnership between the AAA Initiative Foundation, the World Bank and FAO, allowed participants to:
1. Deepen their knowledge of climate-smart agricultural principles and practices in the context of implementing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), with a focus on agricultural sector goals.
2. Share successful experiences across the continent and identify potential synergies.
3. Strengthen their skills in planning and managing agricultural projects, incorporating climate aspects.
4. Get trained on international climate financing mechanisms: Green Climate Fund, Public-Private Partnerships, etc.

The workshop participants were awarded training certificates by Ms. Ghita El Ghorfi, Director General of the AAA Initiative Foundation.
