As part of the pre-celebration activities for the 12th International Day of Yoga 2026, India in Mauritius (High Commission of India, Port Louis) and IGCIC - ICCR in Mauritius conducted a yoga session at the Financial Crimes Commission on 17 June 2026.
The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from the staff members of the Commission, who actively engaged in various yoga practices. Led by Ms. Tanya Gupta, Teacher of Indian Culture & Yoga at IGCIC, the session included yoga postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques aimed at enhancing physical fitness, mental clarity, and overall well-being.
The participants appreciated the initiative. The session served as an effective platform to promote the values of health, balance, and mindfulness, while reinforcing the message of yoga as a holistic approach to a healthier lifestyle.

The 12th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Cote d’Or National Sports Complex, Mauritius, bringing together people from all walks of life in the spirit of health, harmony and well-being.
Dr. the Hon. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of 🇲🇺, graced the event as Chief Guest along with Mrs. Veena Ramgoolam. The Hon. Anil Kumar Bachoo, 🇲🇺 Minister of Health & Wellness, the Hon. Anishta Babooram, Junior Minister of Health & Wellness, and 🇮🇳 High Commissioner of India Shri Anurag Srivastava joined over 1,000 yoga enthusiasts in the celebrations.
In his address, 🇮🇳 High Commissioner highlighted this year’s theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing", emphasizing Yoga’s role in preventive healthcare, mental well-being, active living and healthy ageing. He noted that nearly 26 Yoga events had been organized across Mauritius in the run-up to IDY 2026 and congratulated Mauritian students who won silver and bronze medals at the World Yogasana Championship in Ahmedabad.
He also underscored the growing 🇮🇳🤝🇲🇺 partnership in health and wellness, including the proposed AYUSH Centre of Excellence announced during the recent State Visit of 🇲🇺 Prime Minister Ramgoolam to 🇮🇳 India, and reaffirmed that Yoga remains a powerful symbol of the enduring people-to-people ties between the two countries.
The programme featured warm-up and breathing exercises, the Common Yoga Protocol, meditation, Yoga dance performances by children, adults and senior citizens, and an Ayurveda Lounge showcasing the benefits of Ayurveda, preventive healthcare and holistic wellness.

As part of the celebrations of the 12th International Day of Yoga 2026, India in Mauritius (High Commission of India, Port Louis) and IGCIC - ICCR in Mauritius successfully organized, for the first time, a Yogasana Competition for different age categories (Kids, Adults & Senior Citizens) and Yoga Quiz Competition on 13 June 2026.
The event received an overwhelming response from participants across various age groups and categories. More than 60 participants took part in the Yogasana Competition, while over 80 participants enthusiastically competed in the Yoga Quiz Competition.
The competitions provided a unique platform for participants to showcase their yoga skills, knowledge, discipline, and passion for the ancient practice of yoga. The participants displayed remarkable enthusiasm, confidence, and dedication, reflecting the growing awareness and appreciation of yoga within the community.
The event was highly appreciated by participants, parents, and spectators alike, who commended the initiative for promoting both the practical and intellectual aspects of yoga. The atmosphere was vibrant and inspiring, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and learning.
To recognize and encourage the participants, awards and certificates were presented to the winners on the spot. The successful conduct of these competitions marked a significant milestone in the lead-up to the International Day of Yoga celebrations and further strengthened the message of health, harmony, and holistic well-being through yoga.
