The Department of Civic Education (DoCE), with support from the European Union in Malawi through the Boma Lathu Program met with Nkhotakota District Executive Committee (DEC) today in the Nkhotakota District Council chamber.

What we discussed:
✅ Strengthening civic education structures
✅ Keeping Mphonde Civic Education Hub active
✅ Working together to empower citizens

Chrispin Kalaya, Principal Civic Education Officer, said: "Collaboration is key for civic awareness and citizen participation."

One clarification: DoCE regulates and coordinates civic education. Others implement.

No confusion. Just teamwork.

Big news from Mankhambira!

Today, the community came together at the Mankhambira Area Development Committee (ADC) meeting to elect leadership for their Civic Education Hub. The elections were held during an engagement that was supported by European Union in Malawi through the Boma Lathu Programme and facilitated by Nkhata Bay District Council through the District Civic Education Hub.

The result? A familiar face at the helm.

Mr. Robert Mkolongo has been re-elected as Chairperson of the Mankhambira Civic Education Hub, a clear testament to his dedication, integrity, and service to the community.

Joining him is a new committee ready to champion Pabwalo platforms, promote citizen participation, and strengthen local governance.

Congratulations, Chair! The Department of Civic Education in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development-Malawi looks forward to working with you and your team.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders to discuss the revitalisation of Civic Education Hubs (Pabwalo platforms) as part of the ongoing effort to strengthen democratic engagement at the local level. Discussions focused on aligning hub activities with the newly reconstituted Area Development Committees (ADCs) and enhancing collaboration between education structures and civic education actors.

The District Education Network and the District Hub members reaffirmed their role in mobilising citizens for active participation in local governance.

With 20 hubs now operational nationwide, today's engagement marks another step toward the Malawi 2063 goal of a civically empowered citizenry.
