Ministry of Energy and Mining targets 15,221 households for electricity access in Mzimba

Mzimba, Mana, February 24:
Ministry of Energy and Mining says at least 15,221 households in Mzimba are expected to benefit from increased electricity access under the Accelerating Sustainable and Clean Energy Access Transformation in Malawi (ASCENT) project.

Speaking during a District Executive Committee (DEC) meeting in the district on Tuesday, Chief Energy Officer in the Ministry of Energy and Mining, Gift Chiwayula said the initiative is aimed at increasing electricity connectivity in rural and underserved communities.

Chiwayula said the initiative is expected to improve the living standards of beneficiaries by expanding access to reliable and sustainable energy, which remains key to social and economic development.

Director of Planning and Economic Development for Mmbelwa District Council, Walter Chikuni, described the project as a timely intervention that will contribute to the district’s development agenda.

The ASCENT project will be implemented by the Ministry of Energy and Mining in collaboration with Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi(ESCOM) in all districts except Likoma.

Call for Business Plans – Clean Cooking Solutions Distribution (ASCENT Malawi Project)

The Department of Energy Affairs-Malawi under the Ministry of Energy & Mining, through the Ngwee Ngwee Ngwee Fund (NNNF), invites interested organizations to submit business plans for enlistment as Participating Organizations (POs) to distribute and finance Tier 3 and above clean cooking solutions.

This initiative aims to expand access to clean cooking technologies such as:

🔥 LPG Cookstoves
