Zahid: MIC must hold fresh polls for all posts, including presidency
BY MELISSA CHI
Published: February 9, 2015 02:59 PM
PUTRAJAYA, Feb 9 — MIC has been directed to conduct new elections for every position in the party over discrepancies raised over the polls for its vice-presidents and central working committee, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced today.
The home minister said the all-encompassing re-election was necessary to resolve the infighting in the party “amicably”.
“I was there during the meeting and I reckon what was emphasised by the prime minister is he would like MIC to resolve their problems amicably and for its leaders to be accepted by every quarter in MIC.
“He wants MIC to run to support the strength of Barisan Nasional,” he told reporters here along with the Registrar of Societies director-general Datuk Rahman Othman.
Elections are expected to be held for every level up to the presidency from April to July and only those who ran in the 2012 elections may stand again.
