💥 Anambra state government has announced a 200million naira target for the procurement, distribution and revival of endangered Igbo traditional fruits and other economic trees ahead of the 2026 planting season.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Foster Ifejiofor, announced it today, shortly after a bilateral discussion with the Finance and Appropriation Committee of the Anambra State House of Assembly on the 2026 budget bill.

Ifejiofor said that according to the budget provision, Anambra state will procure;
--60,000 Ukwa fruit tree seedlings at the cost of N1,500 each, totalling N90 million.

--40,000 Udala seedlings and 20,000 bitter kola seedlings will be procured at the cost of N84 million.

He also noted that, in addition, 10,000 Rafia seedlings and 16,000 seedlings of Ogbono at a cost of N26 million will be procured in 2026.

According to him, the seedlings will be distributed to residents across the 21 local government areas of the state for economic benefits.

He said;
"The state uh governor, Prof. Chukwuma by Soludo's administration understands the importance of agriculture and has been doing everything for the people, especially the youth, to be fully engaged in the sector which is already yielding the desired results.

"The state government is embarking on a palm revolution as a significant tool for transforming the state, as 100 thousand households will be receiving oil palm and other economic seedlings during the implementation of the 2026 fiscal year.

"Under the current government, a lot is happening in the agricultural sector as many programmes are domiciled in other Ministries, Departments and Agencies, like the numerous road infrastructure which are already opening up the rural communities for more farming activities".
