GOV. OTTI SPEAKS TO ABIANS: “If He Likes Let Him Hang On The Transformer, this Government Will Not Call Him” — Abia State Gov. Dr. Alex Otti Warns Critics, Reveals ₦14.43bn Investment in Abia Schools

Governor Alex Chioma Otti has once again restated his administration’s firm commitment to transforming education in Abia State, disclosing that a total of ₦14.43 billion has been spent this year alone on the renovation and upgrade of public schools across the state.

Responding to opposition calls for accountability on funds allocated to education, Governor Otti outlined the scale of ongoing interventions:

“We continued to work and upgrade education in the state, both at the primary and secondary schools. 20 Smart Schools are being built as we speak and I understand one has already been completed in Umuahia. 60 others are also being completed, we have identified 51 schools and another 70 schools are receiving attention in the first phase of rehabilitation of schools.”

The Governor highlighted that his administration made education free and compulsory at the beginning of the year, a policy that triggered a surge in student enrollment. He explained that in some locations, existing facilities were beyond repair and required complete reconstruction.

“As we get into some places, we find that existing structures were not fit to be rehabilitated and we found that we have to erect new ones. It is also sometimes better to start afresh and not to pan beat an already dilapidated structure.”

In addition to infrastructure upgrades, Governor Otti revealed the recruitment and deployment of 5,394 new teachers, with postings carefully reviewed to enhance performance:

“We also came under pressure on the teachers and I am sure you are all aware that we have onboarded 5,000 teachers and I have given instructions that people should be posted where they could deliver their best.”

According to him, 221 schools across primary and secondary levels are currently undergoing rehabilitation in the first phase of the state’s comprehensive education upgrade programme.

Turning to political distractions, the Governor delivered a blunt message to his critics, particularly targeting a former Commissioner in the state, Eze Chikamnayo:

“To Chikamanyo, this is a different Government and my response to his request that he wants to be part of this administration is NO. If he likes let him hang on the transformer, this Government will not call him. To the people that sponsored him, they sent the wrong person to talk about such.”

Governor Otti made it clear that his administration is not open to transactional politics or unnecessary negotiations:

“I want to apologize in advance that for those who want to be called, that negotiation will not happen. You will also notice that we ignore a lot of tantrums coming from them. We are focused on our destination.”

The Governor closed his remarks with reassurance to Abians that his government remains firmly focused on delivering good governance and sustainable development across the state.
