My dear good people of Abak Local Government Area,
I trust God you are doing well in your respective enclaves.
As your treasured member whom you trusted with your votes in the last general elections to represent you in the National Assembly in the House of Representatives, I deemed it highly appropriate and necessary to address you at this time considering the different narratives from different quarters regarding the authentic Chairmanship Candidate of our great Party, All Progressives Congress, APC, Abak Local Government Area.
It is no longer in doubt, that our amiable LGA has gained prominence and unprecedented relevance in the polity, politics and governance in Nigeria and Akwa Ibom State in particular due to the unparalleled performance in all legislative angles and engagements in the last one year in office.
This I intend to sustain until your votes say otherwise.
In the last 48 hours, I have been inundated with calls and messages from well meaning Nigerians, sons and daughters of Abak LGA, especially, those living in the diaspora; all seeking to know who is the candidate of APC in the upcoming Local Government elections.
It is on the strength of the immediate last paragraph that I am compelled to make this clarification in order to put to rest the agitation in the minds of many of our admirers who believe so much in our style of open and inclusive leadership ideology.
Currently, our dear country, Nigeria operates a representative democracy that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended empowers Political Parties to sponsor candidates in any election. This is so, because the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended does not recognise Independent Candidacy.
Recalled, on the 3rd of August, 2024, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Akwa Ibom State Chapter ably led by Obong Stephen Leo Ntokekpo and his State Executive Council organised a very transparent Direct Primary Election to elect chairmanship candidates and councillorship candidates across the 31 LGAs in the State and the candidates that emerged successfully through the will of the people were accordingly transmitted to Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission, AKISIEC for documentation.
As contained in AKISIEC Local Government Elections Timetable, the Personal Particulars of nominated candidates forwarded to AKISIEC by political parties intended to participate in the election were published on the 13th of August, 2024 in all AKISIEC offices across the 31 LGAs.
In Abak Local Government Area, the name of Hon. Augustine Edem and Hon. Cyril Udosen were published as Chairmanship and Vice Chairmanship candidates respectively with 12 Councillorship candidates as well.
Therefore, anyone who is in doubt of the authentic Chairmanship candidate for Abak Local Government Area may wish to check the notice board of AKISIEC.
It is on this note I will appeal to all the aspirants one more time to show sportsmanship and rally round and galvanise support for APC to emerge victorious in the upcoming election.
Thank you for your time.
Hon. Clement Jimbo, MHR, MNIQS
Deputy Chairman, National Planning and Economic Development and Political Leader, APC, Abak Local Government Area.
