Ogun @50: A Tribute to Late Hon. Muri Mosaku

Pioneer Legislator, Visionary Leader, Man of the People

As Ogun State marks its golden jubilee, I take this moment to honour the life and legacy of my father, Late Hon. Muri Mosaku, a man whose service and courage are deeply woven into the foundation and growth of our dear state. He was not just a participant in Ogun State's early political journey, but a pioneer member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, helping to lay the legislative framework upon which the state stands today.

A die-hard Awoist, he was a critical member and pillar of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN). His political journey began when the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo raised his hand to become a Councilor, paving the way for his eventual election into the Ogun State House of Assembly.

Hon. Muri Mosaku was a politician of rare brilliance, principled, strategic, and deeply committed to the welfare of the people. His leadership was defined by vision, courage, and impact.

He played key roles in the facilitation of critical infrastructure and social development projects, including the Owode-Siun Road, and the establishment and support of many secondary schools and general hospitals across Obafemi Owode Local Government. These were not mere political achievements, but deliberate efforts to bring development closer to the people and improve their quality of life.

His political journey was not without sacrifice. In 1983, following the military coup that brought General Muhammadu Buhari to power, he, alongside former Governor Olabisi Onabanjo and other political gladiators, was detained for standing firm in the defence of democracy and the people.

He was eventually released by General Ibrahim Gbadamosi Babangida, emerging stronger and more determined to continue serving his community.

Beyond legislative service, he also served with distinction as Chairman of Gateway Transit Limited under the administration of Chief Olusegun Osoba. He was also the founder, Managing Director and Chairman of Owode Socio-Economic and Investment Company (OSEIC), his personal company through which he championed economic empowerment and community development, creating opport

They asked me what my Oga’s government has done in Ogun State, and I proudly told them, we built an airport. That single achievement speaks volumes, because an airport is not just a project, it is a gateway to development. It brings jobs, boosts trade, opens doors for tourism, and connects Ogun State to the world. We have done what no one has ever done in the history of this State. Thank you, Omoba Dapo Abiodun, for making me a part of this historic milestone.

Decency in Politics: A Call to Reject Blackmail in Ogun

Yesterday, a strange and laughable story made the rounds on social media, claiming that some party executives were being prepared for a ritual oath ahead of the 2027 primaries.

Nothing could be further from the truth. This tale is pure propaganda, the handiwork of disgruntled elements who would rather rely on blackmail than ideas, service, or vision.

To the good people of Ogun State, there is a lesson here. Blackmail is not just an attack on those it targets, it is an attack on all of us. It cheapens our politics, distracts from the real issues, and drags the conversation away from what truly matters: education for our children, jobs for our young people, good healthcare, solid infrastructure, and a future we can all be proud of. When lies dominate, progress is slowed, and the destiny of our state is put in danger.

That is why we must reject and condemn this kind of politics. Ogun cannot move forward if falsehood and character assassination are allowed to define our political space. Leadership comes only from God, not from propaganda or scheming. By speaking out against blackmail and refusing to give it oxygen, we defend the dignity of our politics and protect the integrity of our democracy.

As 2027 draws nearer, let us stand together for decency and truth. Let us send a clear message that Ogun people are not gullible, and that we will not allow our politics to be reduced to lies.

This is not written to defend any politician, but as the honest voice of a concerned indigene who believes Ogun deserves politics anchored on truth, vision, and genuine service, not the desperation of blackmailers.

NSF: Ogun Will Host Best-ever National Sports Festival ---Ola Muritala

Virtually two decades after recording indisputably most exciting, well organized and fulfilling sports festival in Nigeria, the attention of sports enthusiasts globally will centre on Ogun State From May 16th to 30th, 2025. This time around, the state will welcome between 12,000 to 15,000 athletes from across the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT).

Considering the quality of sporting facilities provided by Governor Dapo Abiodun for the games, Ogun State is likely to be internationally recognized as "the state for excellence in sports". Pointing out the safety and accessibility of the facilities that have been put in place by the government of Ogun State under the leadership and supervision of Governor Abiodun, sports professionals will agree with me that the quality of these facilities is not only superb but also awe-inspiring!

As athletes, coaches, fans, trainers, stakeholders and sports enthusiasts nationally gear up for what promises to be Nigeria’s biggest sporting pageant-- the 2024 Gateway Games, In Abeokuta, the famous MKO Abiola International Stadium, has now been renovated and upgraded with brand-new tartan tracks and world-class facilities. These facilities now include an Olympic-sized swimming pool, handball courts, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Also, the Alake Sports Centre in Ijeja, has been fully refurbished with unique roofing, flooring, lighting, and improved indoor arenas. The restored multi-sport complex is ready to host martial arts, boxing, squash, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and more.
Other venues include the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne, Babcock University and Abeokuta Sports Club.

Talking of the accommodation, medical support, logistics and catering services, the arrangement on ground cannot be quantified. Big kudos for the Governor and the vibrant Local Organising Committee, (LOC).

Furthermore, the Bukola Olopade factor in the much-anticipated Sports Festival cannot be overemphasized. In 2025, Olopade, the son of the soil, returns with double the influence—serving as both the Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) and the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC).

The proactiveness of the Hon. Commissioner for Sports Development in Ogun State, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, speaks a lot. In conclusion, with the quality of the on-ground facilities, medical services, logistics, accommodation and the personalities involved, Ogun State will host best-ever National Sports Festival.

OGEPA SEALS PETROL STATION FOR UNDERGROUND WATER POLLUTION.

Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) has sealed Arolat Petrol Station, along Ayetoro roundabout road in Abeokuta, pending the conclusion of investigation on alleged under ground water pollution.

This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency(OGEPA), Hon. Farouk Akintunde, saying that a petition was received by Foursquare Gospel Church located beside Arolat Petrol Station in Abeokuta.

Hon. Akintunde said the petition revealed that the church only source of water supply which is a well has been contaminated with Premium Motor Spirit(PMS) in the area.

The Special Adviser noted that the enforcement team of the Agency sealed up the facility to carry out proper investigation, such as identification of contaminated areas, extent of the contamination and ascertaining the present understand water status.

" As a responsive and responsible agency, the safety and wellbeing of our people is paramount and must not be compromise for any reason" Akintunde Said.
