SUSTAIN THE COMMUNICATION IN YOUR ENVIRONMENT WITHOUT NOISE MAKING, OGUN TELLS RESIDENTS.
Ogun State Government has called on residents of the state to sustain communication in their environment without making noise as it today joined the rest of the world to celebrate the 2025 International Noise Awareness Day .
Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ola Oresanya made the call in a press statement released to mark the day with the theme "Protect Your Hearing,Protect Your Health".
According to him,while communication is important,noise pollution is not only an environmental issue but a nuisance that has significant impact on the lives of the people and a serious public concern .
"It is realization of this the Ministry of Environment is using the celebration to remind residents of maximum permissible noise level for residential places, places off worship,places of Entertainment and Commercial areas"
"For residential areas, the permissible level is 50 decibel during daytime and 35 decibel during night time, for places of worship the permissible level for daytime is 60 decibel and 40 decibel during night time while that of places of Entertainment and Commercial Centres are equally pegged at 60 decibels and 40 decibel for day and night times"
Oresanya therefore called on households, community leaders and operators of entertainment and commercial centers to abide by the standard decibel as it relates to them to avoid sanctions just he announced that the state government sanctioned One Hundred and Seventy Five {175 } noise polluters notably religious centers, entertainment houses and commercial outlets in 2024 while forty five (45) were closed down.
He also used the opportunity to call on Community Development Association CDA's in the state to institute maximum permissible noise level in their areas which must be agreed to collectively and obeyed and pledged the state government's continuous efforts at embarking on public enlightenment programmes, stakeholders engagements and moral persuasion to drive home the need for voluntary permissible noise level compliance.

INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENTS,OGUN SHUT TWO INDUSTRIES .
Ogun State government has shut two industries, Quantum Steel Industry in Ogijo in Sagamu Local Government and Xinfeng Plastics Limited along the Lagos - Ibadan Expressway for Industrial accidents that resulted in fatalities.
Quantum Steels was shut down for Industrial explosion which resulted in fatalities with some victims still hospitalised while
Xinfeng Plastics was equally closed down after a machine operator,Ishaku Monday lost his life due to electrocution .
In closing down the two companies ,the Special Adviser to the Governor on Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, OGEPA who doubled as the Chairman of the State Taskforce on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement,Alhaji Farook Akintunde said the government took decision to shut down the companies in order to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the unfortunate incidents and proffer solutions to avert future occurance .
"As a government ,we are determined to conduct credible and diligent investigations including inviting external safety experts to get to the root cause of this incidents in the overriding public interest and safety"
"What is even painful is that despite state government's regular visits to these companies just like others statewide to educate them on the need to adhere strictly to safety procedures,such incidents still occurred within their production lines that resulted in fatalities, so the need to close them down"
Akintunde added the two companies will remain shut until investigations are concluded and new safety protocols entrenched.

FLOOD CONTROL,OGUN TO CREATE MORE TRIBUTARIES FOR OGUN RIVER.
Ogun State government says it will create more tributaries and outlets for Ogun River across the wetland border towns of Isheri,Kara,Wawa and Arepo to further solve the perennial flooding problems and make the areas liveable.
Commissioner for Environment,Dr Ola Oresanya revealed the state government's intention during a consultative meeting with residents of Ogun River Basin Communities at the Riverview Estate in Isheri.
The project according to him will commence next month and will be in phases and it affect the people and some buildings hence the need to consult with the residents of the area before it commences in few weeks time.
Speaking on the state government's intervention in the communities since last year, Oresanya said the retention for flood in the area has reduced from five to six weeks to three weeks due to the dredging of Oparo River in the area.
"We are hoping to complete the dredging of that river to Majidun Area in Ikorodu which is towards the Lagoon as well as other interventions"
Responding,the Chairman of the Ogun -Lagos River Basin Communities,Mr Olanrewaju Akinde said the meeting have renewed their hope and are looking forward to Ogun State government's various interventions that will make their communities liveable adding that overtime the Ogun State government through the Ministry of Environment has proven to be reliable and determined to solve the perennial flooding problems affecting the area.

STREET TRADING,OGUN SHUT ADATAN MARKET.
After several warnings on hazards of street trading and the need for the traders to obey the state's Environmental Laws which forbids it,the Ogun State Government has shut the Adatan Market in Abeokuta.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Protection Agency OGEPA who doubles
as the Chairman of the state's Taskforce on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, Alhaji Farook Akintunde, said all entrieties, sensitization made to the traders to stop them from trading on the walkways,roads and drainage channels in the market proved abortive and the state government had no option that shutting it.
"Aside from these,the traders build shanties and makeshift structures on the drainage channels which are not only illegal but are filled with waste which will inhibit free flow of erosion water that will lead to flooding when raining season gets underway"
Akintunde said the market will remain shut until the traders clear all the drainage channels of all the silts and clean the entire market spaces and sign an agreement that they will not engage in street trading which are not only inimical to the traders but against the state's Environmental Laws.

EMBRACE PROPER ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION,OGUN TELLS RESIDENTS OF BORDER TOWNS.
Ogun State government has told residents of its border towns of Ojodu-Abiodun,Denro, Ishasi, Alagbole- Akute,Lambe and Ijoko to embrace proper environmental sanitation and hygiene to fully reap the benefits of the road infrastructure newly provided for them by the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration.
Commissioner for Environment,Dr Ola Oresanya made the admonishion he led a combined team of the Environment Family that consists of officials of the Ministry of Environment,Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency OGEPA,Ogun State Waste Management Authority OGWAMA and officials of Ifo and Ado-Odo Local Governments on an environmental tour of the new road infrastructure in the border towns as a follow- up to Governor Dapo Abiodun's recent inspection visit to the border towns
Oresanya said the residents and their Community Development Association must monitor and ensure that wastes are not dumped on the drainage channels of the road infrastructure to prevent them from been clogged thereby constituting environmental nuisance and avoid channelling waste- water from their homes to the newly constructed roads.
"The CDA as the first responder must equally prevent residents especially those on the roadsides from placing planks and containers on the drainage channels in the name of creating spaces for home trading which will reduce the lifespan of the drainage channels as they will inhibit free flow of erosion during raining season.
Oresanya equally urged the residents to provide covered bins in their houses and patronize certified waste collectors assigned to their various communities for waste proper disposal.

- Tax Clearance: Three (3) years Ogun State tax clearance certificate
- Company CAC: Certificate of Incorporation from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)
- Certificate of Registration with Bureau of Public Procurement

The PSP Operators' bi-monthly general meeting was successfully held today, Thursday, 16th January 2025, at the Continental Suite, Ibara, Abeokuta. In attendance were the Special Adviser/MD of OGWAMA and the directors.
The primary focus was on charting the way forward for waste management in the state. Key discussions included:
- Discontinuation of highway waste evacuation for PSP operators
- Mandatory domestic waste evacuation for industrial allocation
- A shift in policy to allow the use of open trucks
- Updates on the registration process for PSP operators
The meeting marked an important step towards improving waste management practices in Ogun State.

OGUN TO REGULARIZE, MONITOR MAST AND TOWER INSTALLATIONS.
Ogun State Government as part of its continuous efforts at advancing Nigeria's Green and Just Transition to Net Zero Through Circular Economy Practices is to regularize and monitor Mast and Tower installations in the state.
Commissioner for Environment,Ola Oresanya said it is to stop the dangers posed from radiation and risks associated with them.
Oresanya therefore urged operators of Mast and Towers to cooperate with the state government to make the regularization hitch free
