OGUN WEST YOUTHS UNITE, PUSH CONSENSUS CANDIDATE AHEAD OF 2027 GOVERNORSHIP RACE

Youth stakeholders in Ogun West Senatorial District have declared a renewed commitment to unity and strategic political engagement as part of efforts to secure the governorship seat for the district in 2027.

The position was reached during a stakeholders’ engagement and townhall meeting convened by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ogun West chapter, led by its State Vice Chairman, Comrade Kehinde Damilola Olorunjubelo (KDO).

The event, held on March 22, 2026, at the Recreation Innovation Hub, Recreation Club Ilaro, brought together youth leaders, representatives of youth-based organizations, and key stakeholders from across the district to deliberate on the political future of Ogun West.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, participants stressed the urgency of unity among youths, warning against internal divisions and disruptive tendencies that could weaken the district’s collective aspiration.

The forum resolved that the 2027 governorship ambition must be driven through a consensus-based approach, with all stakeholders aligning behind a generally acceptable candidate from Ogun West. According to the youths, such unity remains critical to strengthening the district’s bargaining power within the state’s political landscape.

Deliberations also highlighted the need to project a shared identity that reflects both Yewa and Awori interests, noting that inclusive messaging would foster broader support and eliminate sentiments of marginalization.

As part of its strategy, the gathering mandated youth leaders to intensify engagement with political actors, including party executives, aspirants, and influential stakeholders across Ogun State and beyond. The aim, they noted, is to build alliances capable of delivering the desired political outcome.

Participants further called for increased grassroots mobilization, urging young people to actively participate in the democratic process while expanding advocacy efforts to other senatorial districts to gain wider acceptance for the Ogun West agenda.

The meeting also emphasized collaboration with traditional rulers and community leaders, acknowledging their role in shaping public opinion and political direction at the grassroots level.

Reaffirming its neutrality, NYCN Ogun West maintained that it would remain non-partisan as an organization, while encouraging members to freely engage in politics at individual levels without compromising collective unity.

On communication, the youths cautioned against the misuse of social media, advising members to deploy digital platforms responsibly in promoting peace, accurate information, and the district’s political objective.

To ensure results, the stakeholders adopted a coordinated action plan that includes sustained advocacy, stakeholder consultations, community sensitization, and peaceful public engagements across the five local government areas of Ogun West.

The council commended the Ogun State Government under Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun for ongoing development initiatives, while reiterating that equitable power rotation remains key to long-term stability and inclusiveness in the state.

The engagement concluded with a strong resolve by participants to remain focused, disciplined, and united in pursuing the Ogun West Governorship Agenda.

Members of the communiqué drafting committee were drawn from the five local governments in the district, reflecting the broad-based participation and consensus reached at the meeting.

Also in attendance is TPL Adebayo Ogunwole an aspirant for the post of House of Representative, Yewa South/Ipokia Federal constituency, who fell in love with the progress and series of impactful programs and strategic moves of the Youth Council in Ogun West and pledge a donation for the course the Youth stakeholders embarked upon.
