Salvaging Ogun State is our Concern- Comrade Niyi Osoba.

By Mobolaji Odunuga

The Chairman, Labour party, Ogun state, Comrade Niyi Osoba has said salvaging Ogun state from the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led government that has brought the state back a decade in the last three years is the concern of Labour party.

Speaking while receiving the executive committee members of Grassroot Mobilizers group led by Chief Pius Ojebulu at the Labour party secretariat, Onikolobo, Abeokuta, Ogun state. Osoba noted that there is no administration that is perfect but the incumbent government in the state is very retrogressive, vissionless and oppressive.

"The state is indebted to the tune of over N300billion at present, road projects not evenly distributed, model schools are being constructed at N1billion while the existing schools are in a very bad conditions, there is no free health facilities and free education as promised by the governor during electioneering campaign. The government has failed in all areas of administration and we cannot fold our hands" he said.

According to him Governor Amosun does not have a manifesto before contesting for election and that is why there is no development in the state.

"Labour party is on a rescue mission and the party is ready to collaborate with any political party or group that believes in "Amosun Must Go" struggle.
The masses must wake up to have a turn around in the state" he said.

Amosun Militarizes Ogun Students.

Our attention has been drawn to the ongoing attacks on the students of Ogun state protesting the bad policies of the government in the educational sector particularly in the state own higher institutions.

It would be recalled that the governor during the electioneering campaign promised a 50% reduction in the student's school fees and also promised a total overhaul of the educational sector in the state which he failed to implement.

On Tuesday,12th August,2014 the Commissioner for Education on behalf of the state government announced a reduction in the school fees of the students beginning from 2014/2015 academic session but the students kicked against the decision saying the reduction they wanted shouldn't be less than 40% and it must be with immediate effect, not next year as said by the government.

In as much as it is the fundamental right of students to have a peaceful protest, we condemn in strong terms the ordered attacks and the arrest of these students by policemen acting on the instructions of the state government headed by Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

The merit of democracy is for people to express their views and be heard, not tear gassing or bullying them as it's the practice during the military era.
It is bad for the government to sponsor students in the state against themselves which is an indication that the governor is biased and he is corrupting the mind of the students.

This is the first time a democratic elected governor will unleash terror on protesting students in Ogun state and this shows the enormity of violence that is inherent in the personality of the governor as this has been part of his attitude.

It was learnt that the Governor was in Abuja yesterday despite the protest.

Human Right Activists and Parents should please rise up in defence of the students as this action of the government is an infringement on their rights.

Signed

EXCLUSIVE: Ogun Lawmakers Plot Amosun’s Sack, List 14 Impeachable Offences Against Him

After weeks of speculations on alleged hatch to impeach Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, the rumours may soon take a real form as the state legislature has commenced moves to oust the Governor.

DailyPost was exclusively informed Wednesday afternoon that the group which is currently in the majority in the House of Assembly, has been meeting secretly to perfect plans toward actualising its resolution to the sack Amosun.

The lawmakers are said to have compiled a list of 14-point constitutional breach by the Governor which they intend to present before the plenary as soon as they perfect the plot.

Part of the allegations raised in the 14-point impeachable offences made available to DailyPost include:

1. Reckless borrowing from banks at commercial interest loan rates, and in breach of constitutional provisions. The House accuses the governor of brazenly sidelining it while committing the state to huge debt in his contract awards.

2. Exposing the state to huge debt without a functional Debt Management Office as stipulated by law.

3. Demolition of houses and business premises without adequate compensation, and where compensations were allegedly paid, such transactions have been shrouded in secrecy and questionable circumstances.

4. Illegal deductions from local government allocations in breach of constitutional provisions on the financial autonomy of the local government to administrations.

5. Misapplication of the Excess crude monies accruable to the state since 2011.

6. Illegal purchase of arms through independent arms dealers; a deal which has brought Ogun State into disrepute and shamefully place the state on the International Terror Watch list.

7. Over invoicing of contracts over arms purchase and road constructions.

8. Swindling the unsuspecting citizens of Ogun State through the Home Owners charter without the necessary House of Assembly edict. Monies were illegally collected from the citizens without any legal backing.

9. Extra budgetary expenditure.

10. Deliberate withholding of the House of Assembly running costs as a punitive measure; selective application and implementation of Appropriation laws. Zero implementation of capital votes approved in the budget.

11. Awards of contracts in breach of the constitutional provisions and the Public Procurement Laws.

12. Waste of public funds on multiple awards of contracts: Ogun State money was expended on the planting of flowers under the urban renewal projects since 2011 but the flowers refused to grow. Bus- stops that were constructed with tax payers’ money were demolished less than six months later. The bridge constructed at Leme on Abiola Way was also demolished less than a year after.

13. Reckless government expenditure on the construction of pedestrian bridge at an outrageous cost of two hundred and sixty million naira (N260m) which has fallen into disuse as soon as it was constructed.

14. Selective distribution of developmental projects with brazen neglects of several parts of the state. It was gathered that the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraj Adekunbi and his Deputy, Hon. Tola Banjo have been identified as the possible clog in the plot and the lawmakers might have concluded to begin the process with a change of guard in the leadership of the House of Assembly.

When DailyPost called Funmi Wakama, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Communication, she asked our reporter to call the Commissioner for Information (Yusuf Olaniyonu), saying he is in the best position to speak on the matter.

“Please contact the Commissioner for Information. We just left an executive council meeting so he should be available for comments.”

Phone call by DailyPost to the Commissioner’s “official telephone number” was picked by a female staff who refused to give her name.

After informing her of the news regarding the possible impeachment process, she directed our reporter to the website of Ogun State, as if the enquiry has anything to do with a government-owned portal.

“I cannot say anything on what you’re asking me. Any information you need is on the site, www.ogunstate.gov.ng,” she said and quickly disengaged.

A follow-up text message to Mrs. Wakama requesting Mr. Olaniyonu’s direct line was not replied as at the time of filing this report.

Ogun LP factions close ranks, root for Jonathan

There were indications on Saturday that warring members of the
Labour Party in Ogun State may have resolved to work together as they have initiated moves to resolve their infighting ahead of the 2015 general elections.

The move was reinforced as a faction of the party led by Olabode Simeon distanced itself from reports that former Governor Gbenga Daniel could not speak for the LP.

Simeon’s faction was reported to have said, last week, that the issue of forming an alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party to work for President Goodluck Jonathan could only be taken by Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State and the National Chairman, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu.

However, while addressing a news conference in Abeokuta on Saturday, Simeon denied making the statement credited to him.

Simeon, who had been having a running battle with loyalists of Daniel over the control of the party structure, said he had accepted the former governor as the leader of LP in the state.

He blamed the reports that Jonathan’s re-election bid had torn the party apart on fifth columnists whom, he said, were bent on destabilising the party ahead of the 2015 poll.

He said, “At no occasion did I make any statement that Otunba Gbenga Daniel cannot speak on behalf of Ogun State Labour Party. At no time had I made such a statement that Otunba Daniel cannot arrange an alliance between the LP and the PDP in Ogun State.

“There was no statement ever made by me or any member of my executive that it is only Dr. Olusegun Mimiko that can take action on an alliance between the LP and the PDP in Ogun State. I did not make any such statement.”

APC Attacks on OGD: A Vengeful Antics.

My attention has been drawn to the statement credited to the Publicity Secretary of All Progressive Congress (APC), Ogun state, Mr Sola Lawal where attempts were made by him to discredit the personality of our leader, Otunba Gbenga Daniel over the comments made by him at the Labour Party summit held at Ogun Waterside, Ogun state last weekend.

To put the record straight our leader, Otunba Gbenga Daniel is not moved by the on going trial by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission which was orchestrated by the APC led government.

Otunba Gbenga Daniel is at peace in his mind having contributed in no small measure to the growth and development of Ogun state and willing to do more.

He sees the charges against him as a phantom instigated by the Governor of Ogun state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and we believe that God will see him through.

It is amazing that a party which is a bunch of vagabond, whose trademark is hostile criticisms like All Progressive Congress (APC) can condemn a highly respected personality like Otunba Gbenga Daniel for raising questions that are vital to the growth and development of the state. APC antics is stylish, diversionary and a red herring. This is much so because it has no reasonable response to the myriad of questions in respect of its maladministration.

Sola Lawal has forgotten that an accused person remains innocent until contrary is proved and he is convicted by the court of law.
Therefore, except Sola Lawal and APC government are not respecters of fundamental human rights and except they believe in jungle justice which is a common phenomenon in Banana Republic, otherwise, the spokesperson of APC shouldn't have said a man who has not been convicted should be put behind bars, this is not the practice in civilized world.

The fact that Otunba Gbenga Daniel is exposing the maladministration in Amosun's government made APC to vengefully discredit OGD with the view to silence him.
However, OGD a man with lion's heart is further emboldened to advocate for good governance in Ogun state.

I am not sure Sola Lawal is sane because his actions and vituperations are illogical and disgusting.

If APC believes they've performed contrary to the opinion of our leader, Otunba Gbenga Daniel why didn't they provide answers to the questions raised by him which bother on grossly inflated road projects, maladministration and lack of vision on the part of Senator Ibikunle Amosun's led government.

Contrary to the claim that Senator Ibikunle Amosun has been adjudged as the best in recent times in the annals of governance in the state, it is crystal clear that protests and industrial actions have been the order of the day in Ogun state.

Students under the umbrella body of National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) recently protested at the State Secretariat, Abeokuta. A situation which led to the appointment of one Mr Clement Adeyemi as Special Adviser to the Governor on Student Affairs, Staffers of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu Ijebu and other institutions in the state recently protested non payment of salaries and other allowances, Secondary Schools management have not been given running cost in the last 3 years, Councillors in the state are being owed furniture allowance in the last two years, some of Amosun's aides had resigned over his style of administration while the Civil Servants in the state have rejected his government in totality, an action which was displayed by writing "AMG" Amosun Must Go on the wall of the State Secretariat, Abeokuta.

We implore the good people of the state not to allow the deceitful APC government mislead them as Labour Party is prepared to make life better for them.

Stop Deceiving The People – LP Warns Gov Aamosun.

The Ogun State chapter of the Labour Party has described the hurriedly convened meeting by the Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, with public servants in the state as a sham and a very desperate attempt to further sell lies and deceits, which have become second nature of the governor since he assumed office three years ago.

The party stated that it found it laughable and inconsistent that the loss of election in Ekiti State by the All Progressive Congress has driven the governor to such desperate concessions, which he is not in any way ready to redeem, just as in many other failed election promises since he assumed office.

The Labour Party expressed concern because according to the party, “Governor Amosun has demonstrated lack of capacity for competence and to be honourable in circumstances bordering on fulfilling promises and redeeming pledges. The latest promises which he made to public servants in Ogun State to wit: housing loans, car loans, employment of children of civil servants and payment of 13th month salary; we consider another attempt to hoodwink the respected workforce in Ogun State only to secure their votes in 2015.

Such promises made under pressure are bound to be jettisoned when the heat is over. So, they couldn’t have been due to any sincere altruistic motive, rather a tension-induced concession for personal political interest of a fast dwindling poltical fortune.

“Experienced political administrators would want to ask, how does Governor Amosun intend to fund the housing loan promised public servants? At what rate of interests? How and from which budget provision is he planning to draw the fund to finance the car loans? At what rate of interest? Were all these captured in the 2014 budget? Especially, because it was clear the people of Ogun State have taken a resolve and determined to vote out Senator Amosun in 2015. Could this promises not amount to just merely trying to buy more time or extending the lifeline of a poorly run political and economic regime?

“In case Governor Amosun does not know these few basic and fundamental workings of government, state governments often times work with Federal Government Mortgage institutions to access housing loans, and the modalities for these are usually worked out spanning across months and years. Could there be some monies of the public servants in this respect which Senator Amosun has been sitting on ever since, and now see the need to release to the original owners in order to pacify them for elections?

“While urging our people in Ogun State, and especially our reverred public servants, not to fall for this deceit, we of the Labour Party promised a more worker-friendly administration which we would jointly own in common patrimony when elected into office in 2015.

“Experience all over the world show that the welfare of the people, and workers are more positively attended to under a government run by the Labour Party”.

Labour Party faults Amosun’s $7.3bn investment claim

.We’re ready to take over from APC— Isiaka

BY DAUD OLATUNJI

ABEOKUTA—Labour Party, LP, in Ogun State, has faulted the claim by Governor Ibikunle Amosun that his administration has attracted $7.3 billion since he assumed office three years ago.

The party in a statement by its state Publicity Secretary, Deji Kalejaiye, said it read with dismay the statement credited to the governor on the pages of national dailies that Amosun’s administration had attracted investments worth $7.3 billion in three years.

Urging the governor to “stop embarrassing the people of Ogun State,” the party said “we need to state, without any fear of contradiction, that there cannot be anything farther from the truth in this statement. It is an embarrassment to the good people of Ogun State that its chief executive officer will be caught in the web of lies and deception which has now assumed a second nature to the state governor and his retinue of cabinet members.”

Meanwhile, a governorship aspirant of the party (LP), in Ogun State, Prince Gboyega Isiaka has said the party is ready to take over from the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, next year.
Isiaka hinged his optimism on what he called, “total rejection of APC in Ogun State because of abysmal performance of Governor Ibikunle Amosun”.

Following the opening of LP secretariat in Abeokuta, Isiaka said LP had clearly made a statement as the party to beat and hinted that a large number of people everyday joined the party to rescue Ogun State from bad government.

OGUN State chapter of the Labour Party, LP, yesterday, faulted the state government’s reaction to comments by party leader and former governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, on cost of roads construction and debt profile of the state.

Publicity Secretary of the party, Deji Kalejaiye, in a statement described the reactions of the government through the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Yusuph Olaniyonu as “un-coordinated, hurried reactions.”
Daniel had fired the first salvo during the commissioning of the secretariat of the Labour Party in Ogun State, describing road projects in the state as too expensive.

Reacting, the government said it sympathised with the former governor as he was merely trying to justify his failure to execute any tangible project in the state during his eight-year tenure.

LP, in the statement, said “We need to be clear about this. Mr. Olaniyonu only successfully betrayed the frustration of the ruling government with his un-coordinated hurried reactions.

The signal that Mr Olaniyonu successfully painted to the public was one of a government that is confused, disillusioned and already overwhelmed with the challenges confronting his principal and their misguided policies, which has openly led to total loss of confidence by the good people of Ogun State.

“So, if Mr. Olaniyonu and his paymaster can be rattled with a single observation, we will advise he better be prepared when the chronicle is eventually released.

“One would have thought, rather than uninformed, primordial, sentimental attacks, Commissioner Olaniyonu would avail the people of Ogun State facts and figures about projects awarded under Governor Amosun’s stewardship. It would have been nobler, magisterial and statesman-like if he talks about the much-touted inflation of project contract sums, as well as the desirability of some of the projects being awarded like Father Christmas bridges.

“The people of Ogun State deserve and want proper explanation and justification for the policies of the government in the management of the education sector; They are interested to know why almost 9 months to the expiration of the Amosun-led government none of the moribund model school projects which had served as another drain pipes on the resources of Ogun State is yet to be delivered.”
