WHO IS SPEAKING FOR ABUA/ODUAL?

Our people are facing flooding, our communities are hurting, and yet the voice of Abua/Odual remains largely unheard.
This is where leadership matters.
A representative elected to speak for the people should know what is happening in the communities, be present when the people are facing serious challenges, ask the necessary questions, and pursue the attention and intervention our people deserve.

Our plight should not become something that simply does not count.
If other communities can have their challenges seen and reported, why should the people of Abua/Odual be left wondering who is speaking for them?
If this is the representation we have had, is it really the kind of leadership we need going forward?
I believe Abua/Odual deserves leadership that shows up, speaks up, and makes the problems of our people a priority.

Who is speaking for our people?

ABUA/ODUAL MUST BE GREAT.

My dear people of Abua/Odual,

In my letter to you, I said our team documented villages without light. Today I want to speak about that directly, and particularly about Odual.

Why this matters
For too long, parts of Odual have lived without reliable access to electricity. This is not simply an inconvenience. Electricity decides whether a child can study after dark, whether a health centre can keep medicine cold, whether a young person can run a business from home, and whether a community feels safe at night. When the light is missing, every other thing we want for our people is harder to reach.
And as I said before, this is not bad luck. It is the result of decisions about Abua/Odual being made everywhere except with Abua/Odual in the room.

What has changed
There is something our people need to know. The rules governing electricity in Nigeria have changed.
For decades, power was controlled from Abuja. Today, the Constitution and the Electricity Act 2023 empower states to develop and regulate their own electricity markets, subject to the State House of Assembly passing a law to that effect. Several states have already acted. Enugu's regulator took over full oversight of its electricity market from the federal regulator in October 2024.
Rivers State has signalled its intention to follow. The question now is whether, when that framework comes, it will reach communities like ours, or stop where the cities stop.
That decision will be made in the Rivers State House of Assembly. That is the room I am asking you to send me into.
What I will do as your representative
I will not tell you that I will personally build a power station or install every transformer. That is not the job of a House of Assembly member, and I will not insult you with promises the office cannot keep. But I will use every power the office does have.
I will support and shape Rivers State's electricity legislation, and fight for unserved and underserved communities in Odual to be written into its plans by name.
Where extending the grid is not immediately practical, I will push for solar and mini-grid solutions, starting with our schools, our health centres and our markets.
I will follow the money. When funds are budgeted for electrification in Abua/Odual, I will ask where the project is, who got the contract, and why it has not been finished.
I will bring our documentation to the floor of the House, community by community, so that no government can say it does not know where the darkness is.
And I will report back to you, as I promised. You will know what I raised, what was approved, and what is still outstanding.
What I am asking of you
If you live in a community without light, speak to us. Tell us where you are, so that your community is on the record. If you have light, remember those who do not.
Collect your PVC. Make sure your family and neighbours collect theirs. On election day, come out early, vote NDC, and stay to see your vote counted.
Odual deserves to see light. With your vote, we will carry that fight into the room where it is decided.
For our people. For our children. For a Rivers State and a Nigeria that work.

My dear people of Abua/Odual,
I write to you today as your candidate.
On the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, I am asking for your vote to represent the Abua/Odual Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly. I do not ask lightly, and I do not ask as a stranger. I ask as a son of this soil who has spent years documenting our pain, and who now asks for the chance to carry that record into the chamber where decisions about our lives are made.
Why I am running
I have worked across the world. I have a family and a career. I did not need politics. I came home because I could not rest while children in Emelego sit under collapsed roofs to learn, while mothers in our communities die in childbirth for lack of a working hospital, and while our young people watch their future leave on the next bus out.
With a team on the ground and community members who refused to keep silent, we documented what others ignored: collapsed schools, empty wards, death-trap roads, villages without light, and markets where our mothers are crushed by rising costs. You showed us these things. You opened your doors. That record belongs to you.
What it shows is not bad luck. Our roads are not broken because money does not exist. Our schools have not collapsed because materials cannot be found. They are this way because decisions about Abua/Odual have been made everywhere except with Abua/Odual in the room.
I am asking you to put us in the room.
What I will do as your representative
A member of the House of Assembly makes laws, approves the state budget, and holds government to account for how it spends. I will use every one of those powers for you.
I will bring our documentation to the floor of the House, community by community, so that no budget passes without Abua/Odual's schools, health centres and roads written into it by name.
I will use the oversight powers of the House to follow the money: when a project is budgeted for our constituency, I will ask where it is, who got the contract, and why it has not been finished.
I will sponsor and support laws that protect our people, from access to maternal healthcare to fair treatment of our traders and youths.
And I will report back to you. Regular town halls across our wards, and a public record of what I have raised, what was approved, and what is still outstanding. You will not need to guess what your representative is doing. You will be able to check.
Why the NDC
The NDC stands for what our communities have been denied for decades: true federalism, real devolution of power, and genuine investment in education, healthcare and security. It speaks the language of the Niger Delta. It understands that those who feed the nation must no longer be forgotten by it. I am proud to carry its flag in Abua/Odual.
What I am asking of you
Collect your PVC, and make sure your family and neighbours collect theirs. On election day, come out early, vote NDC, and stay to see your vote counted. A vote not protected is a vote given away.
Talk to one person who has given up on voting. Tell them this time the record is written down, and so will be the promises.
The mission has not changed. The children we are fighting for have not changed. What has changed is that you now have the power to send someone who has done the work into the place where the work gets decided.
By the grace of God, and with your vote, we move forward together.
For our people. For our children. For a Rivers State and a Nigeria that work.

That is why we have developed a 4-Year Plan built around 3 visions, 8 development pillars and 3 guiding principles—covering the priorities that matter to our people and our communities.

A GOOD REPRESENTATION STARTS WITH A GOOD PLAN

Good representation should not begin with promises. It should begin with a clear understanding of the people, their challenges, and a realistic plan for addressing them.
That is why our programme for Abua/Odual is built around a clear 4-Year Plan, guided by 8 Development Pillars and grounded in a simple commitment: listen, act, measure and remain accountable.

Our 8 pillars cover:
Education & Human Capital • Healthcare • Roads & Transportation • Electricity & Energy • Agriculture & Food Economy • Youth Employment & Entrepreneurship • Industrialization & Local Economic Development • Governance, Resources & Accountability.

Our 4-year roadmap is simple:
RESTORE → EMPOWER → BUILD → CONSOLIDATE.

This is our blueprint for purposeful, measurable and accountable representation.
We have taken the time to think beyond election season and develop a plan for the full four years.
The people deserve to know the plan before they are asked to trust the leadership.

A MESSAGE TO THE PEOPLE OF ABUA/ODUAL

My dear people of Abua/Odual,
We need to be clear about what we should expect from those elected to represent us.
The responsibility of a legislator goes beyond personal assistance or gestures to a few individuals. Representation is about using the office to pursue the development and interests of the entire constituency.

After almost four years, the important questions should be simple:
What development has been attracted to our communities?
What has been pursued for our roads, schools and healthcare?
What legislative interventions have been made?
What projects can the people point to and say, “This has made a difference in our lives”?
Development must be community-focused, measurable and accessible to the wider population. It should not be built around political loyalty or proximity to the office holder.
We should therefore judge representation by what reaches the people, what remains in the communities, and what can be verified, not by the volume of praise surrounding it.
The people of Abua/Odual deserve a clear and measurable record of representation.

Let the work speak.
Let the records speak.
Let the people speak.

ABUA/ODUAL MUST BE GREAT.

THE PRICE ODUAL PAYS FOR HAVING NO FUNCTIONING HOSPITAL

Let us talk honestly about what it means to fall seriously ill in Odual.
When someone suffers an accident, a snake bite, a severe infection or any true emergency, where do they go?
Emelego General Hospital, the first hospital Abua/Odual ever had, stands abandoned. And while some health centres may exist, they cannot provide the emergency and specialist care a functioning general hospital should. So when a serious case arises, our people must travel ,often through poor roads and waterways, sometimes as far as Bayelsa or Port Harcourt.

Consider childbirth. Women have always been supported through normal labour. But when complications arise and medical intervention is needed, there should be a properly equipped hospital within reach. Instead, a woman in danger may have to be carried out of Odual entirely.
And at that point, every minute matters. A medical emergency does not wait for the road to become good. It does not wait for a boat. It does not wait for money to be found. Sometimes, by the time a patient reaches care, too much time has been lost and sometimes, people do not survive the journey.

The absence of healthcare does not only threaten lives. It makes people poorer. When illness strikes, a family must suddenly find money for fuel, boat fares, treatment and accommodation far from home. A farmer loses days off the farm. A trader loses income. A parent diverts money meant for school fees or food. Families borrow, or sell what little they own, just to survive one emergency.
One illness becomes a financial crisis. And across Odual, this becomes an obstacle to development itself, because you cannot build a productive Odual when families keep losing working days and scarce income to a journey they should never have to make. Healthcare is not separate from development. Healthcare is development.

What I will do
As your representative in the Rivers State House of Assembly, I will use the powers of that office and only those powers to fight for the restoration of Emelego General Hospital and stronger healthcare across Odual:
The budget: fight for real funding for rehabilitation, re-equipping and functional health services.
The floor: put Odual's healthcare crisis before the Assembly and demand concrete action.
Oversight: demand answers on what was allocated, what was spent, and what it will take to restore care in Odual.
Because no one should have to leave Odual simply to survive an emergency. No mother should face a dangerous journey because care is too far away. No family should be driven into poverty because someone fell ill.

Emelego served Odual once. It can serve Odual again.

ABUA/ODUAL MUST BE GREAT.
