As the founder of The Yellow House Library (Now The Babatunde Babafemi Educational Foundation) discovering this post was a truly heartening moment. It is an honor to see our past and continuous efforts in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, mentioned alongside national initiatives like those in Denmark.
Our mission has always been rooted in the belief that a child's economic background should never dictate their access to the transformative power of a story. Seeing our students re-enroll in school and reclaim their confidence is the ultimate reward, but having that work recognized by Embassy of Denmark in Nigeria gives our community an extra boost of inspiration.
Reading isn't just a skill - it's a bridge to a better future. Thank you for helping us shine a light on the importance of literacy in Nigeria.
Thank you for this recognition! I hope that in the future, we can foster a collaboration that will elevate the conversation surrounding literacy in Nigeria. I would love to see our actual local library featured further in your future media presentations
Happy World Book Day!📚
Not too long ago, celebrating a day dedicated to books might have looked unnecessary. But today, as we journey through a world overflowing with information, the simple act of reading has become more important than ever. Books offer us a chance to slow down, dive into different worlds, and truly connect with stories and ideas.
In Denmark 🇩🇰, initiatives like the national program launched in 2023 aims to build a strong reading culture among children and young people. Similarly, in Nigeria 🇳🇬, many projects are in place to rekindle the love for books. One inspiring example is the 'Yellow House Library' in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. It provides children from low-income households with access to reading materials and educational support, helping many re-enroll in school and excel in their studies.
On this special day, let us continue to nurture the love for reading, and empower and strengthen the communities around us.

If getting an education for their wards is a bridge, these parents are ready to cross it.
The team in Northern Nigeria (led by MO Oftbbef and Mohammad Kana Faeezah) doing incredible work visiting underserved homes and offering life-changing educational opportunities.
It is a great joy to see parents putting in every effort to ensure their wards can access education at all levels. Pictured here in our service centre are parents like Mrs. Hafsat Tanimu, Mrs. Khadijah Tanimu, and Mrs. Farida Adamu all from KwaKwashe, Suleja, Niger State. They are proof that as long as there is an opportunity to grow and develop, Nigerians will always be ready to embrace it.
We are honored to provide the necessary lift and support for their children’s educational needs.
Our foundation, The Babatunde Babafemi Educational Foundation, remains committed to supporting and elevating the conversation on literacy in Nigeria today.

Isaac has been a truly exceptional young individual who, despite his physical limitations, has demonstrated that humans are capable of mastering and achieving their goals. I had the pleasure of meeting Isaac by chance last year, a meeting which I now term a supernatural encounter, as I have always wanted to extend The Babatunde Babafemi Educational Foundation’s hand towards the special needs community.
Isaac had never seen the four walls of a school before, and since we enrolled him in Bayelsa State School For Children With Special Needs, Isaac has been coming out top of his class. The self-taught pianist, who believes that he can use his musical talents to change the world, is determined, and we at our foundation stand by him to help him achieve his dreams.
I visited Isaac to gift him necessities needed for his needs and also to encourage him; I am grateful to Favour Allen Fente for her swift delivery.
One step at a time, we will continue to build our nation. Our spelling bee event is also coming up, and Isaac will be on stage performing as a pianist.

First, a child will learn how to walk and talk, so they can spell. This December ,The Babatunde Babafemi Educational Foundation’s annual spelling bee focused on creating a literary community by organizing an inter-street spelling event between children from two different streets, facing off on the big stage.
Super proud of the teachers and the team for all the backstage efforts so far to prepare the children for this year’s event!
TWO STREET ONLY ONE WINNER!!

In a world where the 1% are ruling it is important we create an avenue where we can compete and showcase our talents, in a few years from now, some of these kids will be out there competing on the big stage in walks of life.
The impact our teachers have had on them over the past months (last year)till now is staggering, and I’m happy our foundation is laying the groundwork for this.
In a few years to come, I will be glad we took this bold step of creating educational opportunities for the underserved community to compete.
With many initiatives we are working on in our foundation, we are sure we will progress to produce renowned individuals that will stamp Nigeria’s position as the Giant of Africa in various educational fields.
So cool, changing the narrative and giving purpose to these wards.

Celebrating a Teacher.
Glozi Enos has been an amazing individual who has been able to juggle her nursing career and teaching job. I haven’t met Gloria all my life, yet she is always down to teach the children whenever we’ve employed her skills.
She has a wonderful personality and is an overall good person who has been with us since 2024. I’m always stoked to see people interested in education, especially at the street level.
This year’s edition will definitely be a banger, and we can’t wait to give you an educative show.

Celebrating a Team Member
We’ve got two streets competing against each other in love and in literary competition, where many champions will emerge for our third Spelling Bee edition.
This year’s edition is themed “STREET FACE OFF,” and it’s amazing the amount of support we’ve received from the street.
One of our team member and superb coordinator for this year’s event, Suevie Nimova, has been ever-present in all the classes to make sure his street comes out on top this year. Honestly, this is what I intended to create, and it’s amazing seeing it taking shape. You know, parent are eager to make their children participate in this event so as to add feathers to their street’s credibility.
Here are two pictures of last year and this year featuring our team member, Mr. Suevie Nimova, who also doubled as our Coordinator.
Impressive one (1) year and credible improvement.

Our Foundation is creating jobs for our community members. If you analyze growth, it’s always fathered by consistency and dedication.
In 2023, it was just me teaching and coaching.
In 2024, we were able to employ three(3) teachers.
This year, we’ve expanded our staffing by creating seven (7)teaching positions across two streets in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, to prepare teens for our annual spelling bee events.
It’s been an intense few months of teaching so far, and this group of dedicated teachers has been working tirelessly to bring out the best in these talented teens. There’s talent on the streets, and we’re eager to unearth it through our various educational and vocational programs.

Teaching and Coaching Continues towards The Babatunde Babafemi Educational Foundation Third Annual Spelling Bee Competition. (STREET 2)
This year’s event is themed “Street Face Off,” and it is where we see teens from different streets facing off on the big stage.
The streets have talents, I tell you, and we will continue to unearth them through our various literary programs. This year’s event will be one to remember, as we have updated our award list by honoring people who are passionate about our work.
This year, we have inducted Keely Sadira Dorran into our Hall of Fame - the very first time ever that we will be honoring a wonderful individual such as KSD who have not just been a great friend but a wonderful human of great faith.
This year, we will be awarding The KSD Award for Performance to the top teen across the two streets throughout this coaching period.
