๐ŸŽถ Sheila's ๐ŸŽถ

I choked. What?! I coughed and spluttered and Yvonne quickly reached for a glass of water and I gulped it down. By now, everyone's eyes were on me as I took down the last mouthful. "Sheila honey, are you alright?" I heard Mom's worried voice call over the table. The hell I'm not, Mom, I wanted to scream. I don't wanna go to Boulder for cruds sakes! Ugh! "I'm fine" I mumbled. Oh no, I am so not fine. I'm terrible! "I'm sorry the news had to come now, kids. It was supposed to be a surprise from your mother and I." Dad said, a hint of worry in his voice. "The hell it is, Dad!" Darrell snapped. "What kinda surprise is this, huh? Just when we are getting used to this place, boom! We've gotta leave." "Darrell, don't be rude to your father." Mom said, a warning tone in her voice. Darrell scoffed. "Just when I was finally getting to Natasha's good side. I would've had the whole cheer squad chasing after me like hot fudge! I can't even get to go to prom. Ugh!" Kirk said, throwing his hands in the air. Typical Kirk. Always the ladies' man. "Now now, boys. Don't be like that. Your father means well. Besides, Boulder is not so bad, Darrell. You can get settled in over there." Mom said. "Ya think?" Darrell mumbled. Mom shot him a warning glare. "And Kirk" she continued, "There'll be lots of cute girls in Boulder. You can always find one" "But I don't want Boulder girls, Mom! I want my school cheer squad girls. Ugh." Kirk groaned. "But boys..." Dad began and soon, all I could hear was arguing and angry voices and pleads and tantrums. My head was beginning to hurt because of all the noise. I mumbled a 'thank you' to Mom, even though I know she wouldn't hear me, took a few cookies off the cookie tray and left the table. I'm sure no one noticed me leave and I didn't care. I took the stairs to my room with the cookies in my pocket. I locked the door to avoid disturbances. I needed to think things over and process what I'd just heard. Boulder?!

๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ

I didn't know when I fell asleep but I was woken up by a soft knock on my door. I rubbed my eyes and blinked. "Who is it?" I called out in a sleepy tone. "It's Dad" came a reply. "Hold on" I mumbled and ambled my way to the door, unlocked it and went back to my bed and sat. I rubbed sleep off my eyes as Dad came in with something in his hand. "Hey, kiddo" he said, smiling. "Brought you these" he said, stretching the plate of cookies towards me. I took it and mumbled a 'thank you.' "No one noticed you leaving the table except me." He said in a soft voice. "Yeah, just... needed to process what I just heard, that's all" I replied munching on a cookie. Delicious. "I knocked before but no one answered. Figured you were asleep" "Yeah. Didn't even know when I slept off" I replied. There was an awkward silence. Then, Dad said. "I know you don't want to move to Boulder and you don't want to leave your friends and school and everything. It's just..." He sighed. It was then I really looked at my Dad. Like really. He had little silver streaks in his dark curly hair. He was starting to have little bags under his eyes and wrinkles on his forehead. He was still as handsome as ever at 50 but something was... different. My dad was getting...old. The once bright light that used to be in his caramel-brown eyes had diminished. In it's place was a perpetual worried look. That explained why he sometimes sat out most of our training. He just didn't have the body for it anymore. He had a great form even for a 50 years old but he just couldn't do it anymore. It was weighing him down. "I just..." but he didn't complete his sentence as I wrapped him in a big hug. This was the same man who had always held my hands and had taught me my first steps. He was always there for me and I think it was time I do the same. After all, all he ever wanted was the best for all of us and if he thought that moving to Boulder was the best, I support him. Fully. I would miss everything, but my family comes first. "It's okay, Dad. I understand. I'm ok with us moving. If that's what is best, then I support you" I said, releasing him from the hug. I saw a smile on his face and his eyes glistened. "Thank you so much, Sheila. This means so much to me." I smiled. "It's ok, Dad." Dad blinked back tears and ruffled my hair. I laughed. "Cut it out, Dad!" I giggled. " Umm, Sheila? Can you go help me check on Yvonne? She locked her door and I think I heard her crying in there. She'll listen to you." Dad asked. "Sure thing, Dad." "Thank you. I'll be downstairs if you need me" he said and left. I breathed out heavily and plopped down on my bed, looking at the ceiling. I would miss this all but...
It's time to start packing. Boulder, here we come!

I paused. Dang it! I'm hooked. I just can't seem to find the right step to fit that part. Ughhhh! I sigh and go to turn off my boom box. Guess I can try another time anyway. I reach for my face towel and dab at the sweat dampening my brows and neck. "Nice moves, kiddo" I was startled and nearly dropped my towel. I spun around to meet my Dad leaning on my door frame, his arms folded. I thought I shut the door. How'd he...? "You scared me, Dad" I mumbled calming my heart beat. "But thanks. Still working on my moves. Can't seem to find a step to fit in that last part, y'know" I replied, taking in big gulps of water. I wiped my mouth on my dance costume's sleeve and suppressed a burp. I heard Dad chuckle. "You'll find your missing step and that dance will be perfect, kay? For now, you need breakfast. You've been up here for 2 and a half hours. Meet you downstairs" Dad said and left. Wow, it's been that long? I had no idea. I glanced at my wall clock. It had truly been 2 hours plus. My tummy grumbled and I giggled. Time for breakfast. I quickly changed out of my dance costume and into a light floral gown. I packed my thick, red curls into a messy ponytail, grabbed my phone and hurried down the stairs. I could perceive a delicious combination of toast, eggs, bacon and sausages. Was that a hint of chocolate chip cookies? Oh wow! I walked into the kitchen and met mom with her back to me. "Mornin' Mom!" I greeted over the sound of sizzling vegetables. "Mornin' honey. How was your night?" Mom said, her movements graceful and fluid as she turned over the vegetables in the pan. "Twas great, Mom." "That's nice sweetie" Mom replied, wiping the sweat off her brow on the back of her palm. I kissed her cheek and sneakily took a sausage out of the tray. "Hey!" Mom said, smiling. I shrugged and stuffed the sausage in my mouth. Oh my goodness! It was delicious! I had to have another. "Your dad told me you were practicing your steps again this morning. That's nice" Mom said again, focusing on the food. "Uh huh. I tried but I still couldn't get the right step in. I feel I'm missing something." I said thoughtfully, my eyes focusing on how to grab another sausage. "You'll find the right step soon, dear. Just keep...hey!" Mom said as I swiftly grabbed another sausage but not without receiving a whack on my fingers, nearly dropping it. "Ouch!" I yelped and stuffed the sausage in my mouth. Mmmmmm! Delicious. So worth the whack. "Why you little..." I heard Mom's voice about to yell, but I had already waltzed my way to the dinning table. "Love you too, Mom!" I called back. "Set the table, will ya? Everyone will be down soon" Mom said. I began immediately and waltzed my way to perfection, humming.

Soon, everyone was down and seated to the yummy breakfast of tea, toast, eggs, bacon, sausages and sautรฉd vegetables. It was delicious. The table was quiet until Dad's phone buzzed. We all turned to look at him as he ventured to answer it. "No electronics at the table, Dad, remember?" Mumbled my brother, Darrell, through a mouthful of eggs. "No talking at the table, Darrell, remember?" Dad replied and I stuck my tongue out at Darrell. Darrell scowled at me, Kirk punched him in the arm, Mom laughed and Dad chuckled. "Twerp" I heard Darrell mutter. I didn't mind. I was feasting, baby!
Sheila Matilda Cannon. That's me. 16, 5'6", wild, curly and frizzy red-hair, green eyes, very light (almost invisible) dusting of freckles across my left cheek, very intelligent and loves dancing, I'm a pain in the neck to my elder brothers, Darrell and Kirk, but my little sister, Yvonne loves me. I'm adorable, trust me, but Darrell doesn't like my guts and Kirk? He just wishes he can mail me off to Australia in a brown cardboard box with a stamp and a letter never to be returned. Well, guess what brothers? I'm here to stay. Woo hoo! "Daddy? Who was that?" came Yvonne's tiny voice. She's 6, nosy, cute, has my red hair and adorable buck teeth. I love that kid. "Oh, it's none too serious honey" came Dad's voice all cutesy (*barf*) " Just my agent, Walter. He's probably calling to say he's finally found us a house in Boulder." I choked. What?!

๐ŸŽถShake, shake, shake, shake, shake๐ŸŽถ
๐ŸŽถI shake it off, I shake it off, off, off๐ŸŽถ*

These lyrics were my heart and soul. My everything, my all...
My name is Sheila Cannon. Yeah, as in the Sheila Cannon. I'm the daughter of the famous Yolande Cannon, the third child and first daughter in the Cannon family. I'm not gonna go into descriptions of my family. This is my spotlight now. My mom is the famous Yolande Cannon and dad is Trevor Cannon. Let's just say we are a family of dancers. Yep, you heard me, dancers. Dad owns the prestigious Cannon Musicรก and mom is his assistant. Just so you know, my family lives to dance and dances to live. We literally dance for breakfast!
Things all started when we moved to Boulder just so I can start attending the best dance school in the whole country, Boulder's very own L'ecole Danse Havana. This is where all the who's-who in dancing study. It was all perfect till he showed up. Ugh! By he, I mean Nigel Havana, son of the owner of L'ecole Danse Havana, Monsieur Ralphaelo Havana.
Nigel is a total pain in the neck and apparently, the best dancer in the whole school. All the girls are crazy for him and he's a total pl***oy. Things start to become terrible when he threatens to get me expelled if I don't go out with him. Then comes the biggest music and dance off in the whole country right when I was starting to get him off my trail. Our school has always come tops in everything, but what happens when this year, it's decided that there has to be two leads: a male and female? And guess who comes creeping our of the dark shadows?
