CPO Condemns Threats Against Mr. Peter Obi and Calls for Immediate Investigation

The Coalition for Peter Obi (CPO) strongly condemns the recent personal attacks and clear threats made against Mr. Peter Obi by APC Spokesman Felix Morka and other APC members through various media outlets. Of particular concern is the alarming statement by Mr. Morka, where he warned that "Peter Obi should manage anything that comes his way." Such a statement not only reflects a clear intent to intimidate but also constitutes a violation of Mr. Obi’s right to free speech as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Mr. Peter Obi, a respected and decent statesman, used his New Year press conference to air the legitimate concerns and struggles of the everyday Nigerian. These are issues of national importance that any responsible leader or party should address thoughtfully and constructively. The swift and threatening response from APC leaders only serves to validate Mr. Obi’s observation that Nigeria under the current administration is fast slipping into an authoritarian state where dissenting voices are gagged or silenced.

CPO stands firmly behind Mr. Peter Obi and reiterates that threats or intimidation against him will not deter the collective voice of millions of Nigerians who share his vision for a better nation. We urge the relevant security agencies to take these threats seriously, conduct a thorough investigation into the comments by Mr. Felix Morka and others, and ensure that Mr. Obi’s safety is guaranteed.

We also call on all Nigerians to remain vigilant in protecting the values of democracy, freedom of speech, and accountability. Our nation must remain a place where constructive criticism and alternative views are welcomed, not suppressed.

CPO remains committed to supporting Mr. Peter Obi and all efforts toward building a just, inclusive, and prosperous Nigeria.
