A Conference that seeks to create an interface between ICT & Cybercrime sectors to debate how ICT can be leveraged to support the achievement of the past The growth of digital technology has brought about improved performance in all aspects of society. It is an economic development pillar guaranteeing a
competitive advantage. It has led to rapid global communication and networking, provided ease in finding detailed answers to millions of questions every day, accelerated the growth and pe*******on of mobile telephony and its associated multimedia services, Etc. It has propelled increased end-successes in all human activity. It is also essential that the world has moved into the blazing digital ecosystem accelerating at the speed of thought, with very effective concepts and disruptive innovation models such as Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Robotics, Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain implementation, as well as emerging technologies, achieving rapid improvement in the knowledge society. Hence the need to galvanise stakeholders to ensure that the future of Nigeria is safeguarded. The 8th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, desirous of awakening the country to the cyber-challenge, had mandated the Committee on the ICT and Cybercrime to interface with stakeholders. Accordingly, the Committee kick-started the process in 2017 and 2018, thereby setting the ball rolling on awareness creation. Alarmed of the digital threat landscape and the need to engender digital awareness, preparedness and intelligence to correctly position the country for the unending advantages of the digital ecosystem, the 9th Senate, at its sitting on Wednesday, 27th November 2019, considered a Motion on "The Growth of Digital Technology and the Challenge of Cybercrime: Urgent Need to Safeguard the Future of Nigeria", and resolved to:
i.“Mandate the Committee on ICT and Cybercrime to re-establish engagements with stakeholders to galvanize a comprehensive and broad-based approach to addressing Nigeria's Digital Technology and cybersecurity crises and safeguard the present and future of Nigeria. ii.“Further mandate the Committee on ICT and Cybercrime to establish strategic engagements with MDAs to ascertain their ICT shortfalls, cybersecurity constraints, data management challenges and possible remediation measures." Pursuant to this mandate, the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybercrime, in collaboration with the Lagos State Government and partnership with relevant stakeholders, is hosting the 2021 International Conference on Digital Technology and Cybersecurity. Stimulate a collective reflection on issues of digital technology and cybersecurity shortfalls and threats
ii. Galvanize a comprehensive and broad-based approach to safeguarding the present and future of the country in a world enmeshed in cyber-crises. Review new dimensions in the digital ecosystem, improve awareness, expand capacity, boost appropriate synergy in stakeholders' relationships, and provide inputs for legislation.
