NPF-NCCC Arrests Suspect over ₦5.7 Million Cyber Fraud

The Nigeria Police Force through the Nigeria Police Force, National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) has arrested 27 years old Aliyu Muhammed ‘M’, in connection with Computer Related Fraud, Identity Theft, Obtaining by False Pretence and Money Laundering.

The arrest was made following a written petition from an Akwa Ibom based University Don names withheld. According to the complainant, in March 2026, he responded to advertisements for household items on a Facebook “declutter” page operated under the name “SHOPHOUSEHOLDITEMS.” The seller moved negotiations to WhatsApp, where the complainant was induced to make total payments of ₦5,700,000 (Five Million Seven Hundred Thousand Naira). Funds were transferred to various fintech bank accounts and after full payment was made, the goods were not delivered, the victim was blocked, and the fraudulent page was abandoned.

Upon receipt of the petition, NPF-NCCC through technical assets and cooperation from Meta Inc, identified the owner of the account that was used to host the fraudulent page and he was traced to somewhere in Katsina State where he was arrested. The total sum has been recovered and investigation is still ongoing.

Members of the public are advised to exercise caution when transacting business on social media platforms, verify seller credentials, and avoid making significant payments to unverified accounts before seeing what they are purchasing.

PRESS STATEMENT

NPF-NCCC Arrests Mother and Daughter over ₦18 million Romance Scam.

The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) is currently investigating a case involving Computer Related Fraud, Identity Theft, and Money Laundering following an intelligence report received from the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).

Preliminary investigations revealed that one Emmanuel Amanfo ‘M’, a resident of Lagos State who is currently at large, allegedly conspired with his 22 years old stepdaughter, Rokibat Oluwasheyi Imoru to open and operate multiple bank accounts for fraudulent activities. One of their victims was identified as a resident of Malta (name withheld).

Further investigations showed that funds of were transferred through Money Transfer Operators and direct deposits into several Nigerian bank accounts, all owned by Rokibat Imoru. Upon receipt, the funds were transferred into an Ecobank account belonging to her 39 years old mother, Urowhe Diana, where the proceeds were allegedly expended.

Following forensic analysis of the suspects’ digital footprints, the mother and daughter were arrested for their active involvement in a romance scam operation.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, Emmanuel Amanfo, who is the husband of Urowhe Diana and step-father of Rokibat Oluwasheyi Imoru.

Investigation into the matter is still ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.

Following an earlier visit by the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) to the Inspector-General of Police, the Director, Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC), CP Akaninyene Ezima, received a delegation led by the Director-General of NECA, Mr. Wale-Smatt Oyerinde on a courtesy visit to the Center in Abuja on Monday, 18th May, 2026.
The visit was aimed at studying the operations of the Center and exploring areas of collaboration in strengthening the fight against cybercrime.
The Delegation commended the Inspector General of Police, officers and men of the Center for their dedication to duty, professionalism and high standards exhibited. They reiterated the willingness of the organized private sector to partner with the IGP in assisting the Center discharge its functions effectively.
Speaking on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, the Director reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to modern digital policing and applauded the Inspector-General of Police for his leadership and continued support in advancing the fight against cybercrime in Nigeria
He also appreciated the NECA delegation for the visit and willingness to support the Center’s operations.

Nigeria–UK Cybersecurity Partnership Boost

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu,(psc+), NPM, has commended the United Kingdom National Crime Agency (NCA) for donating advanced digital forensic tools to the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC).

Represented by the Commissioner of Police, NPF-NCCC, CP Akaninyene Ezima, psc, mnips, the IGP described the donation as a major boost to Nigeria’s cybercrime response capabilities.

The NCA representative, Mr. Matt Mountain said the support reflects strong international cooperation in tackling cyber threats, stressing that cybercrime requires a united global effort.

The donation follows a training programme held at the Centre on the use of the digital forensic extraction equipment. The tools are expected to enhance investigations, improve evidence analysis, and support the prosecution of cyber-related offences.

This partnership marks another milestone in strengthening Nigeria’s digital security and cyberspace protection
