"Well, I think it has opened ways; you know, today diplomacy without the economic part of it is not complete. So I believe his visit to the UK will open quite a lot of those. And you can see the agreement that was signed, you know, for actually improving our infrastructure, especially in the ports and other areas, which is almost £746 million. That's quite a lot."

We Will Not Allow Insecurity to Overshadow Our Efforts at Supporting the Vulnerable - President Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to confronting insecurity across the country, declaring that Nigeria will not allow criminal elements to undermine the government’s determined efforts to uplift the most vulnerable citizens.
Speaking on Sunday at his Lagos residence during an Eid-el-Fitr gathering with Vice President Kashim Shettima and 23 state governors, the President emphasized that national security remains central to his Renewed Hope Agenda and featured prominently in his recent high-level engagements in the United Kingdom.
President Tinubu underscored the importance of unity among leaders, commending the governors for their show of solidarity and shared commitment to nation-building. He described insecurity as a direct threat to development, progress, and prosperity, stressing that defeating it requires collective resolve and strategic partnerships.
The President revealed that his administration is actively strengthening international collaborations to enhance Nigeria’s security architecture. He disclosed that, following productive discussions in the UK, he held further high-level talks with Emmanuel Macron focused on securing advanced equipment and technical support to combat emerging security threats.
“We are building the necessary global partnerships and deploying modern solutions to ensure that Nigerians can live and thrive in safety. We will not relent until insecurity is decisively addressed,” the President stated.
Fresh from a successful state visit to the United Kingdom, where he was hosted by Charles III and held strategic talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer-President Tinubu highlighted the significance of international cooperation in advancing Nigeria’s security and economic interests.
Turning to economic realities, the President acknowledged the potential impact of global tensions, particularly in the Middle East, on inflation and purchasing power. He called on governors to intensify support for citizens through targeted interventions that cushion the effects of rising energy and transportation costs.
President Tinubu also commended Vice President Shettima for his recent condolence visit to Borno State, assuring Nigerians, especially those in frontline regions of enhanced protection through the deployment of modern security technologies.
He further urged state governors to remain focused and resilient in translating their developmental visions into tangible policies that directly improve the lives of citizens, while working in synergy with the Federal Government to defeat what he described as the “tyranny of criminality.”
In his remarks, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, praised the President’s visionary leadership and the impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda across states. He also commended the President’s historic UK state visit, the first in 37 years, describing it as a bold step toward strengthening Nigeria’s global partnerships and attracting investment.
The governors reaffirmed their collective commitment to tackling insecurity, noting ongoing consultations on the establishment of state police. According to AbdulRazaq, the Forum is working closely with the National Security Adviser and will present a legislative framework to the National Assembly to support this initiative.
The meeting was attended by governors from across the federation, reflecting a broad-based national consensus and unity of purpose in addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said yesterday that he had a lengthy discussion with Emmanuel Macron on strengthening collaboration, particularly in equipment and support, adding that he is making frantic efforts to engage other nations as well.
