The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has warned that there is still no scientific cure for HIV, even as Nigeria recorded about 45,000 new HIV infections in 2025. NACA Director-General Dr Temitope Ilori disclosed this during a media training on HIV prevention in Abuja.

Ilori said effective antiretroviral treatment remains available and is provided free at government health facilities, allowing people living with HIV to manage the condition and maintain healthier lives. She stressed the need to strengthen prevention efforts as Nigeria works towards controlling the HIV epidemic. 

NACA is also expanding HIV prevention options for people at higher risk of infection, including daily oral PrEP, injectable cabotegravir administered every two months and lenacapavir, a new preventive injection administered once every six months.

The agency said the introduction of longer-acting prevention options could help improve access and adherence, while the World Health Organisation has also called for wider use of available HIV prevention methods.

The Federal Government spent ₦3.14 trillion on electricity subsidies between June 2023 and December 2025, according to figures from the Ministry of Finance. The government said the spending was used to cushion electricity consumers from the impact of tariff increases.

The electricity subsidy was part of ₦30.64 trillion in additional spending pressures recorded by the Federal Government during the 31-month period. Other major expenses included ₦9.39 trillion on wage adjustments, ₦9.37 trillion on the exchange-rate impact of external debt servicing and ₦6.47 trillion on strategic infrastructure.

The figures show that electricity subsidy expenditure reached ₦1.47 trillion by December 2025, representing a 1.14 per cent decline from the previous year. The disclosure highlights the growing financial burden of maintaining subsidised electricity tariffs as the government seeks to reform the power sector.

The development comes amid broader reforms following the removal of petrol subsidy and foreign-exchange reforms. The government says those reforms mobilised ₦15.8 trillion in additional resources for the Federation between June 2023 and December 2025, with the funds distributed among the Federal Government, states and local governments.

VeryDarkMan (VDM) has made a strong statement about Governor Ademola Adeleke, his family and Davido following Adeleke’s recent political developments.

VDM questioned Adeleke’s recent relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly the governor’s description of Tinubu as someone who allows “free and fair elections.” He suggested that Adeleke could be positioning himself in a way that may benefit the APC ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

He also addressed Davido, reminding him of his previous criticism of the APC and the support he showed while fighting for his family’s political interests. VDM challenged the singer to maintain the same energy in 2027 if Nigerians decide to vote the APC out.

But VDM’s biggest criticism was directed at the state of Osun. He said that, despite the Adeleke family’s exposure, influence and resources, he expected to see more development in the state.

VDM stressed that he deliberately waited until after Adeleke’s victory before making these comments, saying he did not want his criticism to be interpreted as an attempt to influence the election.

He concluded by saying that Adeleke now has another four years to prove himself and do better for the people of Osun.
