TAG A HERO YOU APPRECIATE TODAY.
"Heroes don't always wear capes. Sometimes, they just show up."
They show up for duty. For family. For country. For a friend in need.
Today, we celebrate the everyday heroes – the veteran who served silently, the widow who stayed strong, the volunteer who gives without expecting anything back.
Tag veteran you appreciate today. Let them know you see their sacrifice, their kindness, or just their presence.
It costs nothing to say: I see you. Thank you.

MINISTRY OF DEFENCE COMMITTEE ON THE WELFARE OF VETERANS AND DRESS CODE VISITS NIGERIAN LEGION
The Committee set up by the Ministry of Defence on the Welfare of Veterans and Dress Code yesterday visited the National Headquarters of Nigerian Legion as part of fact finding mission to have an interaction with the National Chairman of Nigerian Legion and members of the management team. At the visit, the committee exchange views on issues relating to Veterans welfare and the dress code of members of Corps of Commissionaires.
The Chairman of the Committee, Major General GS Abdullahi (rtd) expressed the concern of the Honourable Minister of Defence, General CG Musa (rtd) over veterans’ affairs and the need to address their welfare.
He said the HMOD noted that despite their national service, many Veterans are currently battling healthy and economic challenges. Consequently, he inaugurated the Committee to formulate recommendations aimed at comprehensively improving the general welfare of veterans
The Committee Chairman stated that it’s primary mandate is to ensure that the welfare of veterans is permanently placed on the front burner of national discourse and remains a top priority.
In her remarks, the National Chairman and Chairman of the National Council of Nigerian Legion, Ms Grace Morenike Henry explicitly positioned the core issues affecting the veterans to be included in their deliberations; issues at addressing adequate welfare support to veterans, improved funding to Nigerian Legion and affordable housing for veterans, as well as looking into other post-service welfare schemes.
The Chairman of the committee said there are about 5 - 6 areas the committee is going to look into; Medicare Care, Housing, Pension, Employment for those who are will and Skills Training. In her response, the National Chairman informed the committee that the Nigerian Legion in collaboration with IDMSS conducted training to about 283 veterans on Disaster Management and Emergency Safety Response and some are already benefiting from the training.
Furthermore, the committee’s deliberations touched upon the structural framework of the Corps of Commissionaires with particular emphasis on standardizing their uniforms and ranks. Consequently, the Committee Chairman directed the FCT Commandant Corps of Commissionaires, Captain HN Bako (rtd) to provide the committee with a comprehensive briefing detailing the historical background and Dress Codes of the Corps at both the National and state levels.
In her response, the Chairman Nigerian Legion expressed concern over the Corps of Commissionaires wearing uniforms that mirrors the regular army, as well as their use of ranks typical of serving military personnel. She reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to restoring the dignity, professionalism and uniform integrity of the Nigerian Legion.
Other members of the Committee were Mrs BO Olaniyi, Director Joint Services - MOD, Rear Admiral Taofeek NHQ, Air Commodore AA Adedoyin, Director Veterans Affairs HQ NAF. Others are Mr PA Fatorisa DD VAD JSD, Oboba Elizabeth MOD and Loretta Amadi MOD.

SOME WOUNDS DON'T BLEED. BUT THEY STILL HURT.
Many of our veterans live with memories that never fade. Loud noises may startle them. Certain dates may weigh heavy. They may withdraw, struggle to sleep, or seem distant, not because they don't care, but because they carry more than we can see.
This is not weakness. This is the cost of service.
At the Nigerian Legion, we encourage every veteran and their family to know that help is available and healing is possible. A conversaton, a listening ear, or a visit to a trusted counsellor can be the first step.
If you are a veteran feeling overwhelmed, you are not alone. If you know a veteran who seems different lately, reach out kindly.
Let us build a community where our heroes can speak without shame and heal without judgment.

REBUTTAL TO EYE REPORTERS AND SOME SECTIONS OF THE MEDIA ARTICLE: NIGERIAN LEGION; COS, DIRECTORS RESIGN AND ALLEGED N65M AFRD FUND DIVERSION SPARKS LEGION CRISIS
1. The Management of the Nigerian Legion has noted with concern misleading articles published on May 13, 2026 and May 14th, 2026 by Eye Reporters and some faceless social media handles on their online platforms titled “Crisis Rocks Nigerian Legion; Cos, Directors Resign“ and “Alleged N65m AFRD Fund Diversion Sparks Legion Crisis”
2. The Management of Nigerian Legion wishes to state that some officers left Nigerian Legion as part of a broader restructuring and to align the organization team with a new strategic direction, this has nothing to do with any crisis as it is the normal practice within the Military and Para-military organizations when new management takes over.
3. Nigerian Legion is undergoing a major transformation under the New Management with focus on modernizing veteran welfare, restructuring the Corps of Commissionaires and enhancing security roles under the leadership of the National Chairman, Ms Grace Morenike Henry.
4. The allegation of N65m AFRD missing fund by the same tabloid is grossly exaggerated as many of the donors are yet to fulfil their promises to the Nigerian Legion, all money within the coffers of the organization can be accounted for till date.
5. We urge the Eye Reporter and others to uphold journalism ethics by verifying facts with the appropriate authorities before publishing such reports.
6. The dissemination of unverified and inaccurate information undermine public trust and creates unnecessary confusion. Legal action may be taken against Eye Reporters and its handlers if the attempts to project Nigerian Legion in bad image and falsehood do not stop forthwith.

FAMILY & LEGACY: THE VETERAN'S GREATEST MISSION.
Beyond the uniform, beyond the medals, and beyond the battlefields – there is home.
A veteran fights not just for country, but for the faces waiting at the door. The spouse who prays. The children who look up. The legacy that lives on long after the boots are hung.
At the Nigerian Legion, we know that a veteran's greatest victory is coming back to build a future for those they love.
To every veteran who has traded a rifle for a father's hug, a uniform for a grandfather's story – thank you for showing us that true strength is family.
