It was a solemn evening of candlelight, heartfelt tributes, and deep reflection as the Senator representing Rivers East Senatorial District, Allwell Heacho Onyesoh, joined members of the National Assembly and prominent statesmen in Abuja to honour the late Rivers South-East Senator, Barry Mpigi.
Among dignitaries present at the emotional gathering were the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the Minister of Works, David Umahi, alongside several other notable figures from across the country.
Late Senator Mpigi represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the 10th Senate and served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works until his passing in February 2026. His legacy in public service and legislative leadership was widely acknowledged during the tribute session.
Beyond their shared legislative duties, the bond between Senator Onyesoh and the late Mpigi spanned decades, tracing back to their early political involvement in the United Nigeria Congress Party. Both men also served in Rivers Stateโs executive council under the administration of former Governor Peter Odili, where they held positions as Commissioners for Youth and Sports, respectively.
In an earlier condolence message, Senator Onyesoh described the late Mpigi as a man โwhose life gave meaning to many others,โ while lamenting the profound vacuum his sudden demise has created within his family, the Rivers South-East District, and Nigeriaโs legislative community.
The candlelight gathering served as a poignant reminder of the fleeting nature of life and the inevitability of death. Speakers reflected on the enduring impact of a life well lived, emphasizing that true legacy lies not in the length of years, but in the depth of impact made.
As tributes continue to pour in, many find solace in Senator Mpigiโs enduring commitment to service and humanity values that will continue to resonate beyond his lifetime.
He is survived by a legacy of dedication, compassion, and public service.

โIf itโs your will, let this cup pass me by,โ Jesus silently prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane before his crucifixion. Mathew 26:39.
He had seen the intense suffering ahead of him, and leaning into his human nature, he beckoned God for relief. What followed was a profound submission to Godโs will.
He died on the cross, most shamefully. And three days later, he rose from deathโthat at the mention of his name, every knee bows and every tongue confesses that Jesus is lord.
Yesterday, we celebrated Easter in commemoration of the redemptive work of Christ on the cross of Calvary.
But in all of that, there is an important lesson: Godโs will for us can look like discomfort, intense but intentional suffering, and have us questioning if itโs truly his will.
Thereโs no salvation without a cross. Thereโs no great success without great suffering. If you managed to become immensely successful without any iota of suffering, thereโs a chance someone else paid the price on your behalf.
Regardless, effort is the most enduring leverage. Resilience is a competitive advantage for those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
This week, leverage effort, embrace discomfort, and make sure to keep going.
Happy new week!

Imagine life is certain. You will wake up this morning with the ability to clearly tell every single encounter youโll have today.
You will know everyone youโll meet even before you meet them. And you certainly will know the day you will die.
If that were possible, every day would feel the same. Your success will be directly proportional to your expectations. Your failure will take the exact shape of your anxiety. And there will be no room for miracles or surpassed expectations.
We will lose our sense of wonder if life were certain. Wonder requires openness to a possibility that is different from your reality. This is what births innovation because no creative idea starts fully formed.
People want certainty. But a life without miracles will be impossible to live. This is why we must embrace uncertainty with faith.
This week, embrace uncertainty with faith for there lies the possibility of the miracle you have been praying for.
