AISA STUDENTS JOURNEY THROUGH CHINESE CULTURE AT CENTRE OPEN DAY

On 11th March 2026, Students from the American International School of Abuja (AISA) recently enjoyed an immersive cultural exchange during a special Open Day at the centre. The event served as a bridge between nations, blending education with hands-on discovery.

The visit began with a warm welcome and a series of lectures on Wushu, Chinese cuisine, history, and attire. A central theme was the striking cultural similarities between China and Nigeria, proving that shared values transcend borders.

The Director of the Centre, Mr. Yang Jianxing, delivered an address using a globe to show China's place in the world. He spoke about the importance of cultural understanding in reducing misunderstandings and emphasized mutual respect between nations. "I truly admire the pride Nigerians take in their cultural heritage," Mr. Yang stated. "Next time I travel, I will bring my traditional Chinese attire to wear here in solidarity." He encouraged the children to appreciate the beauty of every country and to respect their differences, just as they do in their own classroom. Mr. Yang concluded by inviting the students to become "cultural ambassadors" and to one day visit China.

The day grew interactive as staff members from Centre led the students through tours and traditional games. Highlights included Shadow-Play, where children used hand gestures to create animal silhouettes on the wall, experiencing a modern twist on the ancient art of shadow puppetry, and the "Pitch-Pot" challenge, where successful students received traditional Red Envelope gifts.

Closing the event, AISA leadership thanked the center for its hospitality and the insightful glimpse into the life of the Chinese people. The visit concluded with a gift presentation and a commemorative group photo, marking a successful day of unity and learning.

Freshly steamed and hand-cut, Guangyuan's cold noodles are a classic dish. Dating back to the Qin (221–206 BC) and Han (206 BC–AD 220) dynasties, these noodles are still a favorite on street-side tables today. They look simple but carry centuries of flavor.
Northern Sichuan's Guangyuan is crossed by the Jialing River and its tributaries, which have long shaped the city's food . Local cooks traditionally use Jialing River water when making the noodles, which, with its slightly hard quality, gives the rice noodles their distinctive texture and flavor.
In Jiange county of Guangyuan, tofu is another local specialty. Made from local soybeans and mountain spring water, Jianmen tofu can be crafted into over 100 dishes, forming the famous Jianmen Banquet.
