Yesterday, at 8 p.m., at the Altar of Confession in the Basilica of St. Peter, as announced, the rite of closing the Roman Pontiff's coffin was held.
During the rite, presided over by Cardinal Camerlengo, the Master of Liturgical Celebrations made the reading of the "Rogito" (Scripture), which was placed inside the coffin at the end of the ceremony.
In addition to the people listed in the Notification of the Department of Liturgical Celebrations, some of the Pope's relatives also participated in the rite.
The celebration, conducted in accordance with the prescriptions of the "Ordo Exsequiarum Romani Pontificis", ended at 9 p.m.
During the night, the Head of St. Peter will ensure a prayer and vigil presence with the body of the Pontiff, until the preparations for the Holy Mass tomorrow morning.
