💧 At just 6 years old, Ryan sparked a movement that brought water to millions across Africa. 🌍
His story fuels our mission at AGAPE - to heal the world with love, light, and life-giving water. đź’™

A Boy Who Quenched the Thirst of Half a Million Africans

This is Ryan, born in Canada in May 1991.

When he was just six years old, his teacher told the class about how children in Africa live without clean water. Deeply moved by the fact that some even die of thirst while he could simply drink from a tap, Ryan asked how much it would cost to bring water to Africa.

He was told about an organization called WaterCan, which could build wells for about $70. Ryan went home, told his mother Susan, and asked for the money. She explained he would need to earn it. With small chores around the house and neighborhood, Ryan saved diligently until he had $70.

But when he went to WaterCan, he learned that the true cost of drilling a well was $2,000. Undeterred, Ryan promised to return with the full amount. With persistence, help from his family, neighbors, and friends, he raised the funds. In January 1999, a well was drilled in a village in northern Uganda.

Later, Ryan’s school partnered with the school near that well, and Ryan connected with Akana, a boy from the village. So inspired, Ryan traveled to Uganda in 2000 to meet him. Hundreds of villagers greeted him, chanting his name. Surprised, Ryan asked the guide:

“They even know my name?”
The guide replied: “Everyone within 100 kilometers knows.”

Ryan is now 33, runs his own foundation, and has brought more than 400 wells to Africa - transforming lives through clean water, education, and empowerment.

đź’™ While the world is distracted by fleeting pursuits, nothing is more righteous than paying tribute to such a true hero.

At ALLIED GLOBAL ADVOCATE FOR PEACE AND EGALITARIANISM (AGAPE), Ryan’s story inspires and strengthens our global mission. His compassion reminds us that one act of love can ripple into a movement that changes nations.

But the work is far from done. In Africa, 400 million people still lack clean water. In Nigeria alone, 60 million people, one in every three depend on unsafe sources. Each day, 1,000 children die from waterborne diseases.

We at AGAPE are committed to leading the world from dark places into light. With wells, clean water projects, education, and community empowerment, we bring hope where there was once despair.

🌱 Our resolve is fueled by the smiles, the laughter, and the tears of joy of those who drink clean water for the first time.

We now call on humanitarians, partners, and friends across the globe:
👉 Follow us.
👉 Add your voice.
👉 Share our purpose.

Together, let us heal the world - in love and light.

AGAPE - Loving humanity unconditionally is our anchor and lighthouse.

Being in the field is one of the most meaningful parts of humanitarian work, it’s where compassion meets reality. Isadora, who works in external engagement with UNHCR in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, reminds us that listening and connecting with affected communities is as vital as delivering aid.

Right now, over 110 million people worldwide are forcibly displaced by conflict, persecution, and climate disasters (UNHCR, 2024). In Africa, crises in the Sahel, Sudan, Ethiopia, and Mozambique have uprooted millions, straining fragile communities and exposing the urgent need for coordinated humanitarian action.

At AGAPE – Allied Global Advocate for Peace and Egalitarianism - we share in this mission. We stand for more than relief; we address the root causes: failed governance, systemic injustice, economic inequality, and the weaponization of religion and identity. Working in partnership with the UN, proactive INGOs, and grassroots change-makers, we transform compassion into structured action - advocating for policy reforms, building resilience in vulnerable communities, and ensuring that no life is reduced to a statistic.

🌍 Join us. Let’s be the light in the face of darkness, the voice for the unheard, and the hope for the displaced. Together, we can heal nations.

📌 COURT CAN GRANT RELIEF NOT SPECIFICALLY ASKED FOR

"Can the Court make an order of perpetual injunction as ancillary order even when it is not sought for? The case of AMAECHI V. INEC & ORS (2008) LPELR-446(SC) where Per MUSDAPHER, J.S.C., had this to say: "It is settled law that Court can order an injunction even it is not specifically claimed but appears incidentally necessary to protect established rights. See Atolagbe v. Shorun (1985) 4 SC (Pt.1) 250, (1985) 1 NWLR (Pt. 2) 360, Okupe v. F.B.I.R. (1974) 1 NMLR 422, Liman v. Mohammed (1999) 9 NWLR (Pt. 617) 116."

MATINO (NIG) LTD v. VIEWPOINT (NIG) LTD & ORS (2021) LPELR-56262(CA)

"It is the law even where a person has not specifically asked for a relief from a Court, the Court has the power to grant such a relief as a consequential relief. A consequential order must be one made giving effect to the judgment which it follows. It is not an order made subsequent to a judgment which derails from the extraneous judgment or contains matters."

AMAECHI v. INEC & ORS (2008) LPELR-446(SC)

📌 PRODUCING A DOCUMENT DURING PENDENCY OF AN ACTION ALONE CANNOT RENDER SUCH A DOCUMENT INADMISSIBLE. THE MAKER OF THE STATEMENT OR DOCUMENT MUST BE AN INTERESTED PERSON

📌 A PERSON WHO RENDERS PROFESSIONAL SERVICE IN WHICH CAPACITY HE MAKES SUCH DOCUMENTS, CANNOT QUALIFY AS AN INTERESTED PARTY

"The argument by the Appellant's Counsel that Exhibit P1-P4 were made during the pendency of this action is inadmissible in evidence under Section 83(3) of the Evidence Act 2011. This submission is misleading and did not persuade me. Producing a document during pendency of an action alone cannot render such a document inadmissible. The governing consideration under Section 83(3) is that the maker of the statement or document must be a "person interested" by all definitions PW1 whose evidence has shown only rendered professional service in which capacity he made those documents, he cannot qualify as an interested party. Abdullahi JCA, as he then was in Osayomi & Ors. V. Executive Governor of Ekiti State held: "Person interested relates only to a situation where such a person has personal interest in the matter and not where he merely has interest in official capacity. Thus, where the interest of the maker of the document is purely official or as a servant or employee having no direct personal interest this provisions do not apply to him and as such is admissible." I am of the firm view therefore that in the absence of any credible evidence that PW1 is personally interested or stand to gain in the outcome of the action in Court, he cannot be described as an interested person and Section 83(3) will not affect a statement or document prepared by him. Accordingly, Exhibit P1, P2, P3 and P4 are not affected by the doctrine of lis pendes and so rightly admitted in evidence by the trial Court."

,Legal Aid Council handles 7,140 cases

The Legal Aid Council of Nigeria has reported that it handled no fewer than 7,140 cases in 2024 and a total of 6,709 in 2023.

The council noted that 4,120 of the 2023 cases were concluded, marking a significant milestone in its 48-year history of providing free legal services to indigent Nigerians.

A breakdown of the 2023 cases includes 4,123 criminal cases granted, with 2,915 completed, and 2,486 civil cases, with 1,205 completed.

This was contained in LACON’s 2023 annual statutory report,
The council emphasized that building on its momentum resulted in a higher number of cases handled in 2024 compared to 2023.
According to the report, 485 cases were resolved through alternative dispute resolution, stating that this method was particularly effective in fostering social harmony by helping parties resolve disputes amicably.
The report also disclosed that the council achieved notable success in defending terrorism suspects, with lawyers representing 350 defendants in locations such as Kainji, Abuja, and Maiduguri.
“In the area of increased successful defence of terrorism cases, the council’s quest to promote human rights and enhance access to justice for all citizens led its lawyers to visit New Bussa in Niger State and Maiduguri in Borno State to interview terrorism suspects."
“Our lawyers also defended some of the defendants arraigned before the Federal High Court sitting at Dawaki in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja,” the report disclosed.
In July 2024, LACON defended approximately 150 defendants arraigned for terrorism offences before the Federal High Court sitting in Kainji, Niger State, according to the report.
The report also stated that in February 2024, 22 terrorism defendants in Wawa Cantonment, Kainji, were represented.
In December 2023, 28 terrorism suspects in Dawaki, Abuja, were represented, while between March 5 and 8, 2024, at JIC/Giwa Barracks, Maiduguri, Borno State, 104 defendants were represented.
According to the report, the Director-General of LACON, Aliyu Abubakar, stated that the council’s mandate ranged from criminal defence to providing legal aid and access to justice for indigent persons.
Abubakar further noted, “In line with the core mandate of the Legal Aid Council, which entails the promotion of access to justice and human rights protection, Legal Aid Officers handled 6,709 cases in 2023 and concluded 4,120 cases.
“These included walk-in clients or their relatives, referrals from magistrates and high courts, and referrals from other justice stakeholders such as the National Human Rights Commission and the Nigerian As part of its support for road accident victims through its One Stop Shop for Victims of Motor Accidents, the council recovered over ₦9.7m in third-party insurance claims for accident victims.
Correctional Service.”

In its pro bono expansion, a digitised registration system facilitated a surge in pro bono lawyers, with 251 lawyers volunteering their services in 2024.

In its child justice initiatives, in partnership with UNICEF, the council resolved cases involving 44 children and young adults detained in custodial centres.

For its community engagements, the council expanded grassroots sensitisation initiatives, raising awareness about its free legal services.

Meanwhile, the report underscored the persistent issue of inadequate funding, which hampers the council’s operations and staff welfare. However, the council expressed optimism, citing assurances from the Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), regarding increased budgetary allocations in 2025.
