The Nigeria Chapter of the UN Youth Association delivered a speech on Day 1 of NIMS 2025, which coincided with International Youth Day, celebrated globally on 12 August.

International Youth Day raises awareness of the challenges and opportunities facing young people worldwide. It is a platform to promote engagement and celebrate their contributions to society, development, and peace.

This year's theme, "Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond", recognises that young people are not just beneficiaries of development, they are active agents of change, innovation, and leadership.

With over 65% of SDG targets linked to local governance, youth engagement is essential. At NIMS, we share this vision. Nearly 70% of Nigerians are under 30, so they cannot be left out of the conversation on industrial manpower.

A skilled, empowered youth population is the foundation of an industrial workforce that meets both local needs and national ambitions.

By equipping young people with the right training and opportunities, we close the gap between policy and practice and lay the groundwork for sustainable growth.
